Default Source for flat rubber/hatch weatherstripping

I've got three large hatches over the engines; the fiberglass hatches vibrate/rattle when crusing and make a racket. I'd like to glue some heavy duty 1/8" rubber strips (like 1-1/2" wide) inside the aluminum channels that the hatches lie in. It would kill the vibration/noise and maybe even make the cockpit a little quieter.

Anyone know where I can find this?

Here in Pensacola, I'd could tell you exactly where to go find what you're looking for; it would be Rubber & Specialties or Pensacola Rubber and Gasket. They are both in the rubber hose/hydraulic hose and gasket business and specialize in just about anything rubber, silicone, gasket materials or related industrial products. Look for a similar supplier in NPR, FL and I'd bet you can find what you're looking for.

Thanks, but the softer, foam rubber type stuff won't stand up to this. These are large, heavy hatches that'll tear that stuff up. I'll see if I can find a local rubber manuf...

I suggest you contact Flounder Pounder in Florida. You can look them up on the internet.

Go to McMaster Carr mcmaster.com and look for neoprene rubber in the size you want. We buy neoprene, and a few other types of closed cell foam from them for a variety of tough applications. They have a huge variety of shapes and flats available for decent prices.

If you check out trimlok you'll see some pretty familiar shapes from boat gaskets too. TrimLok shapes are also carried by McMaster. A really nice thing to do for your application is get a sample pack of a variety of durometers you can get one that's stiff enough and won't compress and cut easily.
