Default 2003 Yamaha HPDI VZ175 HPDI Reliable?

First of all, here is the boat thats for sale.

2002 Lund 1800 Pro V IFS (White/Beige)
2002 Yamaha VZ175 HPDI w/ SS Prop
2002 Yamaha T8PLR w/ Controls
2001 Shorelandr Tandem Axle w/ Brakes
Options: Lowrance X135 On Dash, Lowrance X71 On Bow,
Minnkota 55 Powerdrive, 3-Bank On-Board Charger
4 Rod Holders, Custom Travel Cover
$21,500.00 w/ Rockguard

I have recently read things on diff. forums about these years of motors being crap. Is that only the 250s and 300's? Or are the 175 not so reliable also. On some other forums folks were saying to stay away from this year. Some forums say this is a fabulous motor. The boat has been meticulously maintained and looks well taken care of by the same dealer that I am buying it from. The dealer has a very good reputation in my area. This boats been in fresh water only. It is on consignment and is a one owner boat. He is getting a new pro v.

The dealer put it on their computer and it has 195 total hours and out of those hours 55hrs were below 1000rpm and only 4.5 were at full throttle.

This will be my first boat and I have no idea if this is a normal hour range or not.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to THT!

I am going to assume that you are from a Northern or Midwestern state, as that type of boat is not too popular with the saltwater crowd.

The 150/175/200 HP HPDI engines are all built on the Yamaha 2.6 liter V6 block, one of the most reliable engine platforms ever produced.

I owned a 2004 150 HPDI for 3 seasons and it was entirely trouble-free. I have fishing friends who also own 150 HPDIs, they have had them since 2003 with no issues other than routine maintenance.

I grew up in Minnesota where every other boat was a Lund or a Glastron. That 1800 Pro V is a nice model and should last a life time. 50 hours per season is considered a nation-wide average for boat useage, so this Lund is well below that.

I have no idea if the asking price of $21K is good or not, I am sure you can research that further.

Good luck with the purchase!

The 150, 175 and 200 hp hpdi's are great motors!!

Only the big blocks had problems (250 - 300 hp)
