Default Yamaha outboard or Furuno fishfinder problem

On an almost new Furuno LS-4100 fishfinder I am getting a "High Voltage +16.5 volts
alarm when I get the engine running from 50% throttle & plus. At idle I am getting about 14.2 volts which sounds high. This is a new fishfinder (second use) the first use about 10 days ago,no problem. I have not been able to check the voltage at the plug yet as I need another person to help running the boat while I check at the fuse panel to eliminate a bad fishfinder reading.

Question: Could my rectifier/regulator on the 2 cycle 60hp Yamaha be going bad?
The fishfinder is my only voltage read out on the boat. Did not note any other eletrical problems

Use a voltmeter to double check but sounds like your voltage regulator is shot. A 60 hp has a fairly small charging system so I would check the voltage first. You can get a $5 digital voltmeter easy. Harbor Freight had them for $2.99 the other day.

Thanks for the reply, Yes, was planning on doing that as soon as I could get someone to take the boat out with me as I need the engine to run about half throttle to get the voltage up. Do not want to be running that fast and try to
read a volt meter with my bad eyes.

Also check and clean the battery cables - my Rude read high when the cable was loose as it thought the battery was dead and will charge its little head off.
