white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a older Gradywhite and have replaced all of the fuel lines (fill, vent, supply) and have also replaced the original tank w/ a 93 gallon aluminum fuel cell. We put a brand new Yamaha 225 4 stroke and have had nothing but problems. We are going on our 5th fuel pump and have replaced the injectors. We are getting a white powdery substance that seems to be clogging up the fuel filter and putting undue stress on the fuel pump. The 5 amp fuse for the fuel pump keeps blowing but if you put a 10 amp in, it runs fine.
I need some serious help. This has been a nightmare from day one and the mechanic or Yamaha customer service can't figure it out.
What is the white stuff and where is it coming from?
Re: white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
clean up all the filters and the injectors, etc - everything on the motor. Go out and get a 6 gallon pony tank, feed the motor vis new tubing, get some fresh e-10 or reg gas from the service station and see if it runs...at least that will tell you if its in the delivery system somewhere....

Thanks for all of your inputs.
ok, so if it's oxidation caused by e10, does it eventually go away or will it always be a problem? How do I get rid of it quickly? Can I have the tank cleaned/polished??
Re: white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not E-10 oxidizing your tank. The tank or a related fuel system component was contaminated from the start. Once you get the debris filtered out your problems will clear up.
RE: white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you sure that water is not getting into the new tank? Check the o-ring on the fuel fill and check your fuel vent.
Also, make sure you are using a 10 micron fuel water seperator. If you are already using a 10 micron...talk to yoru mechanic about switching to a 2 micron filter. If so, you will probably need to change it more often because it catches more contaminents....
RE: white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The short answer. Put in a 2 micron RACOR set-up and change the filters every 20 hours and after a few hundred gallons the problem should stabilize.
For the long answer do a search here or on Classic Parker and you'll get pages of info.
I've spent >$5,000.00 over the last three years on this issue and just now believe that it is resolved. In that time I have run ~450 hours. The expenses were multiple fuel polishings, fuel pumps, injectors, filtration, etc.

Would water cause a white chalky powder? I don't think water is the issue. We had a fuel water seperator and there was none. We have replaced the fuel cap (oring is good) and we have replaced the vent and hose.
Jeff (Peregrine) Would you recommend polishing or just changing to a 2 micron racor filter and changing it every 20 hours?
Re: white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't 1st try Glen E's idea, I would go with the 2 micron Racor as suggested above. I would get a few of those and be ready to change them frequently until your delivery system is cleaned out by the E-10. And make sure you are not mixing E10 with regular fuel as that seems to cause more of that white stuff from what information I have seen here on E10 issues.
Re: white stuff in my new fuel system HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I second Peregrine's idea, but change more often. Had the same problem, after 2 injector cleanings and 2 VST cleanings ($3k), I replaced the tank altogether. It is corrosion dust, very fine stuff.

Where is a good place to get a 40 - 50 gallon poly x link tank?
Filters are alot cheaper.Buy them by the case and keep a few on board and keep a filter whench/plastic jug on board for changing the filter out.In time your problem will clear up.
