Default Outboard water discharge temperature????

Hello,

I just bought a 1997 Seaswirl Striper with a 1997 Johnson Ocean Pro outboard. I ran it for the first time today, and noticed the temperature from the discharge is cool, not warm, even after a bit of running.

Any thoughts on this? I was under the impression that the water should be warm, but not hot or cold.

Appreciate the help.

Jason

It can be anywhere from cold (temp of the body of water) to warm, in my experience. I think you should worry if it is HOT, enough to burn you.

On your Johnson Ocean Pro, the water tell-tale comes directly off the water pump before it enters the engine block. Depending on the lake water temp and the condition of the motor, the overboard stream will vary from cool to very warm. Other motors and other models have various plumbing designs so the overboard water could be different.
