Default Scout for Rosborough

We've been shopping for awhile looking to move up to a downeast style hull with a full cabin from our Scout 242 & I've focused in on the Rosborough due to its trailerability & outboard power. I've located a good deal on a Rosborough, but wasn't planning on selling the Scout until the Spring. So now comes the hard part. I spoke with my dealer & he will broker the boat for 10%. He's been great & I'm sure he'll do a good job. Is 10% reasonable? Is it even worth the effort give the season here in the Northeast & the economy? Will it hurt my sales effort if I ask for a lower price now for a quick sale & raise it if the Rosborough sells? In other words is there a way of finding out the original asking price on sites like Yachtworld? I've never sold a boat before so any advise would be welcome.

Pretty tough market to be selling a boat and Fall is the wrong season for selling in New England regardless.

10% is the standard commission on boat sales, but that may be a bit negotiable. I assume your dealer is Viking Marine in Portsmouth? Scott will take care of you, that's for sure, but he can't magically find a buyer for your boat.

It's not a great situation, good luck.

We really enjoy the Scout. Great for fishing & the overnight accomodations & storage are good for this type of boat. We spent two weeks on it this Summer cruising Cape & Islands. I will not be broken hearted if I keep it another year, but I'm eager to get into our "permanent" boat. We bought the Scout knowing we'd be moving up in a few years, but we wanted a cheaper trailer boat to start (this is my first good-sized boat). So I've avoided any mods to the Scout & didn't have it bottom painted. I wash the boat after every trip which is a little time consuming, so I'm looking forward to a boat I can keep on a mooring & modify to suit our lifestyle.
