Send me $20 and I'll teach you the secret handshake. LOL

I've actually never bought anything that was seized, but I've bid on some of it. Some states handle it differently. The marshalls service has links to the companies they use to sell stuff.

In my state, NC, they have a pretty good website that has auctions for drug seizure property and state surplus. I bought some state surplus stuff not too long ago. I made out pretty well. I ended up with a free LCD projector after I sold all the other stuff that came with it.

http://www.ncstatesurplus.com/ssp/pu...mepage/ssp.htm Click on "Available property" on the left, then click on "Available items for bid" on the right to bring up the lists of stuff.

That is just for NC though.

I think that Marshal Seized Vessels are a myth used to con a lot of folks out of $19.99 + shipping and handeling.

insurance auction - you need to be a registered dealer in the state.
Government/Military auctions are real . . . but the stuff goes for crazy prices and it's end of life junk (parts only).

Many of the boats which end up at Marshall's sales are pretty well trashed by the time they are auctioned. I have looked at several---and had seen them when first taken in--just neglected in the interum.

On the other hand Government Surplus has some very good items. We used to have a surplus sales in Pensacola, and I saw some real bargins. I also had a friend who pruchased a fully functional 74 foot wooden (excellent condition) Navy training vessel for $10,000, complete with full fuel tanks and everything worked. He made it into a fantastic yacht (had 4 6/71's). Sold off some of the long range radar etc and got his $10,000 back.

So you have to look at them to see. Often marshall's auctions are advertised either in the local newspaper, or the legal rags, which almost every decent sized city has.

I wonder how many people will be sinking their boats on purpose during the hurricane

If you own on of those foam filled. That won't be a option for you.

You will have to continue your note and live with your depreation in this downward market.

Back to the topic. A note of caution. As with seized vessels/autos/whatever. Depending on the actual condition of seizure. The original owner or lien holder may still have legal rights. The US Marshals does not guarantee title insurance (aka clear title).
