What I/O power package does it have, Merc, Volvo, or OMC?
The best plan is to get a manufacturers' manual and follow it to the letter. I run mine on the hose till it's waremed up, change the oil and filter, drive oil and water seperating filter. Then I run it again and fog the motor. Finally (MOST IMPORTANT) I drain everything, block, manifolds and raw water intake hose and probe each opening to make sure it drains. Lastly I backfill through the hoses with -100 antifreeze with corrosion inhibitors and sray the engine with Corrosion X or similar. Whatever you do, do NOT use one of those suck the AF up the drive kits with the big tank if you have a raw water cooled engine, the engine will not get warm enough on the hose to fully open the thermostat and then it will wind up with AF in the manifolds only and mostly water in the block. That can cause a cracked block/heads over the winter. The correct draining procedure is most important.
