When did yamaha stop using model years on their motors?

Most manafactures have been going by serial # for a few years now!

I thought I remember april 2005 being the date, but I bought a crate motor produced 10/05 and the registration just came in the mail as 2006. I bought the motor a month ago and the invoice I was given said 2008 and it was given to the bank like that.

2006 - 2007 was the year they started

You're right it was April, 2005. Dealer really shouldn't have written a year on the invoice though.. where did you get the engine from?
