I am on to looking at a new boat and it has a 2005 Yamaha 115 two stroke on it. I was wondering if anybody knows if this is a good motor, any known problems, how good on gas is it?
the 115 2 stroke is a very good engine. a 115 4 stroke will get 25% better gas milage but the 2 stroke will give you a little better performance. at wfo there will be very little difference in fuel usage.
I've got a 2001 and it's been bulletproof. It's a jet drive and runs at wot all day long. Never done anything but change the plugs. I run it 10-11 months a year and it's never been fogged. Starts every time and runs strong even in the dead cold. Had the choice of a 4 stroke when I bought it and glad I went with the 2 stoke.
I have a 1997 model that I purchased new. It is the best outboard that I have ever owned. It still runs great like the day I bought it. It is very strong for a 115. Mine is on a Scout 172 Sportfish.
