When you go to ' YAMAHA OUTBOARD PARTS'
step 1.. select OUTBOARD
step 2.. select 2003 OUTBOARD
step 3.. select either SX 225, or LX225
step 4. select TOP COWLING
It will show you a drawing with SALT WATER SERIES II in total view;
the part number is 65J-42610-00 says it is for Sx 225 and LX225.
Now that was really hard.
VX 225 is for VMAX bass boys
There ain't no Z 225s in 2003
Z is for HPDI
F is four stroke
L is left hand , they combine it L+F =LF for both engines ,the only difference is lower units.
so there is generally 4 lower unit listings .generally 1 + 2 = standard rotation.
3 + 4 are COUNTER rotation lower units.
Now,I am NOT a Yamaha Parts clerk nor am I a certified Yamaha mechanic.
This is why the Parts Guy wants to know your numbers on the left transom clamp.
Note, parts listing says 2006 and later are lumped in together.
However , example early LF250s and later LF250s use a different shaped lower unit.
The latter ones have a nose cone pickup in addition to the standard ones on the side.
signmansez....... I think he said it correct according to Yamaha 2004 Outboard listings I don't see any two stroke 225 cowlings with SWS II. There is a SX 150,200 small block that says SALT WATER SERIES II.
