Default Yamaha f-150 4-stroke problems

I have a 2006 Yamaha 150 4-stroke and have had nothing but problems with this thing. I'm on the second lower unit because they couldn't keep water out of the first and last season blew a powerhead. The powerhead was replaced but not a half a season later I have nightmarish issues again. Possibly another blown powerhead. Am I the only one with such issues with this motor? I would not wish Yamaha products on my worst enemy.. This product is terrible... I'm supposed to pay for this brand new boat for 10 more years? I can't get one trouble free season out of it... If you're in the market for a new boat make sure it isn't powered by a Yamaha... Do yourself the favor...

I have a couple of Yamaha 4 stroke 225's and love them. I would write Yamaha because I am sure they would help you.

Nice 1st post. You should ask for help first before bashing Yamaha. i have a 2006 F150 and it has been flawless for almost 500 hours. Regular maintenance and I run mine HARD.

Sorry you got a lemon.....happens. I would not own an outboard other than a Yamaha. You sure your dealer knows what they are doing?

Sorry to hear about your problems, but I'm on my 3rd set of Yamaha's & my 1st pair of F150's and none of them gave me a lick of a problem. I'd try a different mechanic.

Aim those Scud missiles somewhere else, Saddam.

If you are actually interested in some advice, post some more details about what has happened.

Default RE: Yamaha f-150 4-stroke problems

I've had this thing to 3 different local shops, "All Certified Yamaha shops" also had a aYamaha guy come down himself and give it a shot.
First problem was a stutter when trying to accelerate, it kind of falls on it's face then goes. Sometimes stalls but not all the time. I was told the tps sensors were set wrong. Thats when I was told there was water in the lower unit. Yamaha changed the seals then after 2 months there was water in the lower unit again. New seals again. During winter prep, water in the lower unit again. New lower unit now. Spring time comes and during a big bass blitz off Asbury Park, POW-CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK, Blown powerhead. Yamaha replaced that. Now it's overheating, but spitting water just fine, no power while not overheating and my batteries appear to be dead.. Low voltage. Yamaha warranty guys aren't the problem, they seem to replace busted stuff every few months. I'm just wondering when it ends. I don't beat this motor at all. Just my luck I guess... Thank god for a 6 year warranty...

Sorry about all your problems. Yam's usually are not that bad. Don't pay attention to the razzing. Yama-holics are very defensive around here. THe motor came with the boat? Or was installed as a repower?

Someone resealed the lower unit twice and I still got water in it???? Yeah right, sounds like they know what they are doing. Just because they are a certified Yamaha shop does not mean the forklift operator isn't the one doing your work. What was the failure in your powerhead when it needed replacement? Sorry your having crappy luck......they really are good motors.

I would strongly urge you to use another dealer. No matter how nice the present one seems..

I believe the one you have now is not working to your mutual self interest. Hence all problems you have with your F150. When it comes to boats, I believe, the dealers make the brands reputation as much as or more than manufacturers.

I have an '06 F150. 500 hrs in 18 mos. One fuel pump diaphragm at 200hrs no more problems.

Power head was replaced and I was told there was something in with one of the pistons. They don't know what because it was beat to a pulp and spit out I guess. One in a million chances of such a thing on a brand new motor is what I was told. Sorry about the rant my first post Yamahaians, but I'm getting crazy with this boat. It's a 21' Hydra Sport W/A 2006 by the way... I'll see what happens now. I'm nervous to even run the motor as now it taps abit and I found a little oil when I took the cover off this morning. Should be Great... Don't get me wrong, I love this boat when it runs good, and believe it or not I bought this boat because it had this motor on it... Go figure
