If there's enough profit margin built into an extended warranty that one dealer can sell it cheaper than another, then thats got to tell you something. Factory is making money, dealer is making money, customer is losing money. The only time an extended warranty will benefit the customer is if the power head blows during that period. Now calculate the number of Yamaha's on the water vs. the number of blown powerheads on a motor less than six years old. Sorry guys, odds are way in the house's favor. I don't have any factual statistics but my bet is that most who end up using their extended warranty just basically prepaid for the repair.
Btw, I do have the extra 3 years on my Yammie, but it was part of a promotion. Otherwise, I would have just let my money earn interest in a bank.
I suspect the prices that Ed's quotes are not much above their cost so use that as you shop around. Remember this is the YES warranty from Yamaha, which dealer writes the warranty doesn't really matter.
Disclaimer - I have never done any business with Ed's, I only know them from this site. I have done business with SIM and with my local dealer. I have always been pleased withe the service and price from both.

I guess you haven't priced a lower unit lately.
And having a 3 year extended YES warranty DEFINITELY helps when trying to sell a used boat.
Ok, Ok. Again with this added. How many Yamaha LOWER UNITS have blown out there considering the number of Yammies on the water everywhere . Again, take into consideration that we're only talking about motors less than six years old. The math still doesn't add up to me. But I guess its a hell of a racket because I still get all kinds of calls from different companies trying to sell me warranties on my '02 truck.
As far as selling a boat, i'm sure it may make it more attractive but you will still lose your azz on a LESS THAN SIX YEAR OLD MOTOR. Unless of course you are lucky enough to find some ignorant sap thats willing to pay new for something used.
