Default Where to repair/junk a 12' fiberglass boat?

We have a boat in our yard (Chicago northwest suburbs - Schaumburg) that is in need of repairs and abandoned. My plan is to:

1) Have it repaired if possible
2) Give it away free to any one who wants it & can fix it up
3) Have it hauled away & disposed as junk
4) Cut up the boat and dispose in trash.

Option 1: I am not sure is worth it and don't know of any repair place around here.

Option 2: none of my friends want it. Any one here needs it let me know. It has a nice set of oars, mast & anchor.

Option 3: don't know who would do this. Called Junk king & they refused.

Option 4: Have never cut a boat before. What kind of saw/blades would I need? Someone was willing to cut it up for cash but never showed up. Also is it OK to dispose of fiberglass materials?

I would appreciate any tips on cutting up the boat or junking it.

Here are the boat details:

> 12" Oxford Cardinal Fiberglass Sailboat, Beam: 60", Length: 138", Weight: 145 lbs.
> Freeboard: 20", Sail Area: 82 Sq ft , Capacity: 4 Persons
> It also has 5HP outboard motor capacity, but the motor is long gone.

The garbage men took a similar one from my home 8 or 9 years ago on bulk pickup day. The just slowly fed it into the back of the garbage truck. I believe we had a 12-pack of beer sitting on it when they pulled up....

As for cutting it up, Boston Whaler uses a chain saw in their ads....I imagine it would ruin the chain blades, but it should do the job.

Call your local waste management division and ask them...

Recip saw with a good demolition blade should make short work of it.

Most landfills will take a boat based on weight or physical size.

Or post on Craigslist . . . "free boat"

Otherwise . . .

A chain saw is the fastest.

Thanks everyone, guess it will hit the saw then. I did put it on Craigslist and many people scheduled to come look, but only a few showed up. I always thought that a boat enthusiast would want it - at least for the free oars, mast & anchors - plus some cash to have the boat fixed.

In the past, due to my lack of cutting skills I have offered cash to have this cut. They agree and never show up. I guess the economy is just great for those folks.
