North Myrtle Beach, SC ** Fishing Options - Mid/Late April ??

Heading down with my family and another family for Spring Break during the 3rd week of April.

We're both from CT, avid fisherman...got all the gear etc etc..

The "guys" want a day or two to fish. We're staying in North Myrtle Beach and have NO idea what kind of fishing options there are available to us that time of year.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable Charter? What can be caught that time of year in that geography?

Any THT'ers want to make a few bucks and maybe take us out on the saltwater?

just north of where you will be there are a few marinas, i think the town is little river. i never checked for charters there because i was with a non-fishing group of golfers. let us know how you do..........mk

in late april the whole area is hot fishing. inshore trout and puppy drum and sheephead. the stream is at its hottest. call capnt brant 910/575-fish or check his website www.oifishingcenter.com

If you are going offshore take a trip to the Frying Pan Tower, scheduled to come down soon. There's usually something going on there depending on the water temp. Captain Brant's website is a great resource.

Calabash and Little River are on each side of the NC/SC border. There are headboats and charters out of both. Hurricane Fleet is out of Calabash.

I second the Captain Brant recommendation. I have not used him but our local fishing club has him as a guest speaker yearly. Ocean Isle NC is about 15 miles from North Myrtle Beach dependent on where in NMB you are staying. He is very knowledgable about local fishing conditions and what is biting.

Kings and spanish should be in by then, also the other options mentioned. Brant will be very busy that time of year so book early if you plan to charter.I fish out of Ocean Isle and there are several inshore reef,live bottom areas from OI south to NMB.Good luck

Ocean isle might be a long drive depending on what part of Myrtle Beach you are staying in. If you are in North Myrtle it might be ok, but if you are in MB or farther south (Surfside Beach, garden City, ect) then you will probably want to consider a charter out of Murrels Inlet. Captain Dicks Marina has Gulfstream charter boats as well as head boats. There is also Marlin Quay Marina and Voyagers View which also have several charter boats as well.

April is a great time to catch tuna, the georgetown hole is always hot. When you look at the charter prices remember that it is a long run from MI to the break(30 fathom line) 56 nm and 70 nm to the georgetown hole. The boats farther north (ocean isle) spend a lot of time fishing the blackjack hole which is about 65 nm from MI(probably about the same run from OI, but I am not sure.
