Default Optimax oil in 200HP 1999 Ficht

I know that my 200HP 1999 Ficht outboard must run special DFI oil. My question is: can I run Mercury Optimax DFI oil in an OMC Ficht outboard. The reason is that my marina has Optimax oil available by the drum so it's convenient.

Thanks in advance for any help

i have been trying to find the same thing out. I sold my opti's but still have about 15 gallons of opti oil. I spoke with a very reputable evinrude dealer in Florida and he said the Opti oil would be fine. It is very close to the xd-50 and is made for DI's. I haven't tried it yet but the Opti DFI is a very good oil and shoudl be fine

Read the fine print. OPtimax oil in NOT TCW#3 compliant. It's made not to dilute with gasoline.

both are DFI oils which are highly refined oils with less ash, ive run both and had no problems!

just curious why this would matter. Both are DI systems.

IN my view each company formulates their oil to match their specific engine requirements -- some BS in here, but not oil is the same. I owned a 2003 FICH that failed at 756 hours when #5 main went due to lack of oiling. It was out of warranty and I was left holding the bag (of parts). It oily saw Evinrude oil from the dealer and still had a problem. If I still had a FICH running I would do everything I could to make it last. They are bad enough on fouling plugs with the factory oil much less anything else.

Exactly where did you see " OPtimax oil in NOT TCW#3 compliant " ?

I have mixed both oils and have never had a problem. I had a pair of 225 opti's and put xd 50 in them for several hundred hours. I have also ran 150evinrude DI 's with mercury 2 cycle oil and never had a problem, again this was done for several hundred hours and no problems.

stick with the XD-50.

The time and cost of a problem out weighs any inconvenience/savings. You know how much oil it burns, when you find it, buy it in volume

ficht, ficht, ficht

Any of the top manufacturer's DFI oils are just fine in any of them - as you know you can't go down to the old oils.
