B- Good Luck. Over time you talked yourself into this. it's fun ain't it? The color pallet is wide open. I've always thought dark green or blue is classy. Or burgundy. Remember all the window trim and rub rail are black.
Enjoy.

Is the post on the bert in the wrong place? is that boat for sale?
No - not for sale that I know of - I had mentioned the "black/white/gold" bootstripe combo to B-Faithful in my earlier post on pg. 1 and found the pics.
Just wanted him to get an idea of how it looked.
That Bert is NICE - it's a '72 or '73, I think, and had just finished going thru a refurb.
RE: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
The black and gold is always a great combination and is both sharp looking and traditional. Electronics? I love my Garmin 4212 from Jim. If you are primarily in under 100 feet, you owe it to yourself to look at the new Humminbird side scan. That's a fisherman's best weapon. Ah, the windlass. I am not a fan of free fall windlasses with everything flying out of the locker and over the roller, only to sail or tangle without you knowing it. The Quick stuff works (as you know) and the parts, unlike Lewmar, do not seem to be made of 24 karat gold.

After going through the same process (custom factory build) with my Steiger, here are my 2 cents. My goal was to minimize maintainence and keep the boat looking new for years to come.
1) Stay away from a dark hull unless you keep the boat out of the sun when not in use.
2) Same goes for bolsters, delete them if you are slipping the boat or storing it outside.
3) If your fishing involves a lot of different tackle, put a tackle center on it like the one from Nautical designs I had built for my boat.
4) That type of transom with bracket, put the name on the transom.
5) Avoid tape vinyl boot stripe. The first time the gas tank vent burps it will lift where the gas runs over it.
Here is a link to pics of my boat in case you have not seen it. Have fun and good luck!

Congrats and look forward to the coming build pictures. I think I would go with green canvas as this would make the wife feel included and happy (well worth it). You know it does matter to her or she wouldn't have mentioned it.
Re: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
Congrats.
The boat has timeless lines. I think a navy blue hull, with red accent, and/or bottom paint, would look great with your silver Honda. Those colors are just plain American.

Thanks for all the input.
I am 85% sure that I will go with a dark blue (navy) accent on the white boat. Name is leaning towards hull sides but may go cabin side. With navy boot stripe and dark blue bottom the name letters would also be in navy with a slight light blue drop shaddow
I am stopping at BOE in the next week or so to check out the electronics. I am still leaning towards the Garmin 3210 package but will fiddle with the 4000 series to see if it is worth the extra coin. I will even check out the Northstar M121.
Considering a name change to but most likely not. Considering "Chanticleer" as my wife and I are graduates of Coastal Carolina Univ and it is where we met or "Miss Print" as I am a printer by trade.
Re: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
Congrats B - you certainly made a great choice! I'm partial to blue boot stripe, blue canvas and black bottom paint - has stood the test of time... Enjoy the build, and as we say in the Navy - fair winds and following seas!
Re: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
I Think your boat is AAA1 absolutely fantastic. Just wondering if the E-Tec by Evenrude was thought of a lot lighter better mileage twice as fast and the warranty is unmatched. And build in Amarica
Re: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
Right now Judge sells with Honda or Zuke. You can probably get the boat without power too if you wanted. I think an Etec would be awesome but there are few dealers around here. A buddy of mine recemtly ran the same hull (another brand) with a 250 etec and 250 zuke and was more impressed with the etec. That says a lot to me as I think he is a knowledgable boater. I chose the Honda as Judge rigs with either Honda or zuke and Honda has a 5 year warranty right now over the zuke 3. Judge also has had fantastic luck with the Hondas and has been rigging them a long time (they are a newer zuke dealer). On this hull the Honda has also proven to be more economical vs a 250 Zuke (with the honda a 25mph most economical cruise is said to burn less than 8gph in calm water - not bad for a 26'4" hull). I certainly think the zuke looks better and it is faster. But I am also told that it is louder at speed. This hull does best running under 30 anyhow with its warped plane hull. I am told she will tickle 40mph with a light load and hit 36-38mph with a regular load at WOT with the Honda. My long runs are typically no more than 20-30miles in choppy waters so the relatively slower cruise (to some of todays other boats that will cruise over 30mph) doesnt cost me a lot of fishing time. Small trade off for a decent ride, stability, and good economy IMHO. Besides I would rather be in a slower larger boat fishing on rough day than smaller faster boat with deep v - Just me.

New owner took posession of the Maycraft today. What a sad day! I caught a lot of fish on her and the OptiMax was a great motor. I hope my new Honda will be as reliable and fuel efficient.
While at the Judge shop today I saw the hull already laid up in the mold. She is supposed to be "popped" tomorrow. I also went over the options with Elaine and Bill today.
Here is what I am getting:
Dinette to port with tackle center in the back
Full transom swim platform with dive ladder on the armstrong bracket
Full salon enclosure
cockpit 2nd steering station
QL trim tabs
Cabin cushions
Rocket launchers
I also picked up the fabric swatch to select patterns for the cabin and enclosure. Wife has some choosing to do...
Here is a photo that THT'er megabyte took at a boat show of the Judge Dinette with tackle center in the back.

Old Hat was impressed with jimbo's 27 Judge this year
Re: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
By the way, Bill's crew does a great job rigging electronics - mine worked great from day one, and haven't coughed a bit since. I had BOE drop ship my stuff to them and they took it from there. I'd suggest letting them do it once you figure out what goes where...

B, As you know, all good things come to those who wait and we all know how
patient you are !
All the best to you and your family with the new boat. No matter what choices
you make during the build process it will be a beautiful boat.
Looking forward to the build process pics.
Re: Here comes the Judge! --- 27 Chesapeake that is...
Nice boat B!
You might consider an Enertia 15P prop on that with the Honda 225. I run one on my 2004Pro-Line 26 Walk (7000 lbs with fuel & equip 8'-6" beam).
Best mpg is 2.53 at 25 mph. Top speed about 38 mph. The Honda and Pro-Line have been reliable and trouble free.
