200 HP Yami test with 20 pitch prop and 19 pitch saltwater series I've been tracking my gas efficiency on my Pioneer 220 BaySport with a 200 HP Yami using my GPS. I have three data points on the factory 20 pitch prop SS prop and one data point on a Saltwater Series 19 pitch SS prop.
The 20 pitch prop numbers are 3mpg, 3.7 mpg and 4.6 mpg with varying lake conditions. These numbers were tracked by my GPS and stored in memory. The boat speeds at various rpm's are from memory and may not be as accurate. Just in gear it runs 3.0 mph. At 4000 rpm it runs 30 mph. At 4200 rpm it runs about 33 mph. At 4400 rpm it runs 36 mph. WOT is between 56 and 60 mph (depending upon lake conditions).
I have only one data point with the 19 pitch Saltwater Series prop, which is 3.4 mpg. This was 75% running on a plane while 25% of the time was just in gear (no fishing). Just in gear runs 3.2 mph. At 4000 rpm it runs 32 mph and so on. In general, it seems to run about 1.5 to 2 mph faster at the same rpms as the 20 pitch prop. I did not run WOT.
Based on the speed at RPM, I would expect the 19 pitch SaltWater Series to provide better fuel efficiency. But the numbers on the 20 pitch prop were too widely varied. Some of that could be mileage fishing with the trolling motor (which I tried to extract).
The theory is the larger blades on the 19 pitch Saltwater Series push more water than the standard 20 pitch. So which prop is better or is it a wash? |
