Default Angler Catamaran 20ft

Can any one tell me about this boat. I like the looks, plenty of space, but what about the ride and quality?I would use it in the ICW mostly.
Thanks in advance

From a picture I have seen on the internet, the hull looks just like a pro kat 20' that I just sold, which was a 2006 model.Handled 3 to 4 seas easily. Tony

fishinwhits is on the money. The Angler was made from molds which are now used for the ProKat 20. Before Angler, the molds were originally built by Seagull Boats of Naples and used for their Seagull (which had only a single engine) and Nautico twenty foot models. If you search here on those last two names, you will find several recent threads where that hull was discussed.

I own a 20 foot Seagull, and have been delighted with the hull. It is particularly good at eating chop which where I am is the usual condition about nine months a year. Many people with the ProKat 20 also like the ride and hull. One thing, I don't know what the Angler weighs. When Seagull built the boats, they ran about 1600 lbs. dry and "naked." The ProKat version is up to about 2000, but of course, it is configured for twins. It is a full planing hull. Besides the chop, if you get into nasty big seas offshore, it is still a twenty foot boat, although (IMO) far better riding than any monohull in that size range. Offshore in big waves, I think the extra weight might help the boat, while hurting it in other conditions.

Re. quality, in the Seagull it is/was excellent. In their Nautico, also good, although the wood under the decks needs watching. ProKat owners have had some quality issues. I truly have never heard about the quality of the Angler builds; perhaps someone else here can help.

Minor correction: ProKat 20 is a single engine cat. 22' and up are twin engine. I like mine, and the quality has been fine -- bought it used when it was about a year old with 42 hours. I've put about 110 hours on it in 15 months or so. Engine size and trim tabs can make a big difference in "happiness" with these boats [regardless of manufacturer].

Thanks for replying, I spoke to a dealer out of Michigan who gave me the history, the deals world cat, glacier bay and pro cats. He says seagull, angler and pro cats all used the same hull but there was a ventilation problem and pro cats fixed the pod problem starting with the 2006. I do like the looks and space but I cannot afford a 2006.

You might ask CudjoeDon too, but I bought my boat used, and the original owner who set it up had gone to a four blade PowerTech stainless prop. With it, ventilation has been a total non-issue for me. I only have a 90 on mine, but I know several who have 140's, and even with that higher power, ventilation isn't a major issue. With the OEM three blade, it might be.

Assuming the boat(s) you were looking at come with power, the only way to really be sure is some test ride(s).

It seems that they did something because I can run various props with no significant ventilation problems. When I bought the boat, it had a PowerTech 4-blade stainless that had been changed from 18pitch to 16pitch. It gripped OK, but I couldn't turn quite enough RPMs. Bought a new Solas Amita 4-blade aluminum 17pitch which works fine and gets me to better RPMs. Later I bought used PowerTech 15pitch 4-blade stainless and new Evinrude/Johnson 17pitch 3-blade aluminum props because they were cheap enough to try. Even the 3-blade works fine which surprised me -- enough so that I'm keeping it and the Solas and selling the two PowerTechs.

I have a 1999 Model, which I believe is the only year Angler built this hull. Mine has a Yammie 115 and cruises @ 25 mph at a good gas consumption rate. I can get higher speeds but eat more gas. The only problems I have noticed are the screws in the deck boxes. The hull has held up pretty well for its age. The ride is a little wet into the wind on a side sea, but that is to be expected in just about any 20 hull I've been on.

What kind of power does the one you are looking at have? What kind of cost are you expecting? All factors to consider.
