Default windlass on 2520xl parker

Have an xl on order and thinking of putting a windlass on it. Wondering if anyone has one on the same boat and how it is working out. Should I go freefall? Is there enough room in the rode locker to aviod tangles ect? Any specific brand? Also any input on delta vs. danforth anchor. I have read on this forum the danforth flops around on the pulpit. Or should I just use the anchor ball. Fish alone alot.

How deep you fishing? How often anchored?

I use the anchor ball on my CC but fished with a guy with a 27 sportcraft pilothouse and keep the anchor in a tub on deck tied off at bow. The tub had enough line to cover the depths he fished in(15-40 ft). Retrieval was a snap.

capt.nick,
I found that Delta anchors beat Danforth in windlass application hands down. It is my experience that in addition to better holding in different bottoms they also reguire less scope and will position themselves on (actualy under) pullpit
every time with very little effort on your part. Danforth may flop itself in a air if you do not stop retrival at the moment when anchor hits first roller.

Good luck.

Anna Kathryn, I got the Yamaha 225 four stroke that the dealer already had on it. I know someone who has one,and has been happy with it. I've driven the boat and it seemed to ride better in a head sea than the MV. You have the same power on your boat? If you do maybe you could confirm your cruising speed,GPH, and WOT. My guess would be 25,10-12gph,and 30mph? Also, do you have a windlass? I often anchor in 60-100+ feet and am considering adding one. How does your boat handle the rough stuff?

My old windlass, a "Horizon" by Simpson Lawrence, was a power down. I had a lot of trouble with that unit. Always jamming up and it had a plastic guide that had to be replaced about 5 time a year.

My new one, a "Good", is a free-fall. I think the benefit of the free-fall is speed of deployment. As for how much rode is out I have a a color coded rope (Also put out by Good) that lets you know exactly how much rope is out.

I haven't had a chance to use the new one yet (just play with it in the yard) but by looking at it's construction and size of the motor I think it's gonna be worth the few extra bucks.

Yes, Capt. Nick, I do have the same power, and I could never go back to a 2 stroke again.... Your #'s are pretty close....
I cruise at 20 knots, burning 7 to 9 gals. an hour, and 30 some mph at wot is about right. In a rough chop I will trim the bow all the way down and she cuts thru without banging..... Your going to love the rig..... I came out of a 1987 23' Seacraft that I had owned since she was new and I don't miss her a bit....... Good luck with your new boat......

I've anchored at the canyon alot and last season was the first time I did it without a ball.
Its nice to be able to bring it up without pulling it in but powerdown sucks in deep water.
If your only going to be in 50 ft. or less the power down would probably be ok for use.
Just alittle side note, powering up in deep water is also a long process.

I have a '90 parker scmv with a model 600 simpson lowrance, no free fall.
I have 300 ft of line and 15 ft of chain, fits in the anchor locker with room to spare, I figure I could get another 150 ft. into the locker. to prevent jamming/hockles use a open jaw swivel at the bottom of the chain (near the anchor) to counter the rode twisting. I hear the free fall models are better but that is what came with my boat.
funny you ask about windless and folks head off in different directions.
good luck with the new boat, you will love the parker.
