Default Johnson reliability ?

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2000 Johnson 200hp FICHT (RAM) outboard motor.

I would like to know from experience are these motors reliable? I understand there a bit more fuel efficient than a standard Carb model, (which is what I have now, V6)

Please let me know any deficiencies or recalls that these motors might have had in the past and present. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

OMC had enough trouble with these early ficht engines to go out of business. There are plenty of threads about these
engines and I recomend you do a search. You may be better off with what you have now. If a fuel efficient engine is
your goal consider the new designs and research the boat tests.

Do a search of the forum. Plenty of good discussions on the ficht.

Better check that motor again, Johnson never made a FICHT in 2000 and Johnson never built a 200 FICHTin any year!

I thought that too, but I have personally seen a 99 150 FICHT with JOHNSON decals on it from the factory.

It's listed as an Evinrude. Looks correct to me.

Evinrude=FICHT/RAM, is correct. I've gota 2000-150hp, don't know about the "Johnson" thingthough. The bidding isn't very HOT yet, I'll be watchin'.

Johnson did buld a ficht but they were 150 and 175's and they were made for one year which was not 2000,
The 2000 my ficht was the year that OMC was startng to get a handle on the problems. Some proved good others did not if you are intersted in that engne make sure you get a very good deal on it and make sure it has the the njector bracket upgrade on them.
Fyi 2002 and newer ficht/DI engines were very good engines.
Good luck
