hey guys. first of all hello to everyone. been reading the forums for a while now and it's a great source for info so thanks in advance for any help here. just wondering if anyone had any experience with or opinions on the grady 330. my dad is looking into one and i'm trying to find out as much as i can about it. how do you think it compares with the pursuit 3370? saw em both in miami but no sea trials anyway, thanks guys and take care
The transom design sucks!!!!! There's at least 6' between where you can actually stand and the end of the motors.
Ditch the aft cabin, install some straight drive inboards and reconfigure the transom so it's flat w/ just some storage and a livewell in the cap and you've got yourself a boat.
The Pursuit has all the same issues. The Grady is better looking, but that's my personal opinion. Both those boat scream for twin diesels!!!!!
If I had the $$$, I wouldn't buy either one.
Consider the Luhrs 32 Open for less $$$$. It's a real fishing boat!
I own a 33 Express and love the boat. I looked at the 3370 Pursuit and was disapointed. The biggest reason was it is only a 10.6 beam verses 11.7 on my Grady and that makes a world of diference in usable space. Personally I was very surprised to see they did not add more beam to that boat. But from what I understand it was built off of the 30 express inboard hull. I have the 225,s and an very happy with the performance, can cruise at 30 mph and burn about 21 gph. I know alot of you guys think that is to slow and feel the need to cruise at 40 and top at 50. On a 40 mile run you only get there 19 min. faster and to me that is no big deal but that is just personal preference. GW204, I had a new Luhrs with twin diesels before I bought the Grady. The boat would not cruise any faster than my Grady, burnt the same amount of fuel and I had more problems with that boat in one year than I did with the 3 Grady whites I owned put together. I am not bashing Luhrs, I am just giving my personal experience with the one I owned.
thanks for the info guys. yeah we really like the grady and the extra beam is definitely nice. we're set on outboards due to weather/winterization where we are so these boats seam like the best in their size range with outboards. not too much competition in this class really it seems. but thanks again and good to hear from an actual 330 owner. glad to hear you like it
I can tell you around NC and SC they are selling like crazy for a boat of this price. Most down here get the custom towers. Check out www.crockersmarine.com for some pix. I just got a 2004 300 Marlin and am very satisfied. I have the F225s as well. The 300 is as large as our marina can dry stack.
Just be prepared to get many calls from GW customer service. They are serious about making sure you are thoroughly satisifed.
You can look at the stamas 32 express, its cheaper than the grady white and can get it with outboards and inboards, also it has a better cabin. And quality can be even better.

There are some interesting comments on the euro transom, from the transom to the fishbox is just wide enough to allow the motors to tilt up. Then there is a 270qt fishbox, transom door, and storage with battery access. I'm not sure how one could improve on that design and still run OBs. The fishing area is huge with 80sq/ft, and plenty of room to sit out of the weather. Like Grady too I went from a twin inboard diesel boat to the 33, the GW is quieter, same fuel consumption, lot more range, roomer in the cabin and did I mention it doesn't smell. The Gw is not without its warts but any issue with the boat has been taken care by GW with no hassle or cost. For the way we use the boat, I don't think I could have made a better choice.
luhrs are crap, but anyway i own a 33 gw and talked to guy at mid-shore electronics in cambridge md who put my electronics on this summer and he has installed electronics on boats for 25 years. Everything from gradys to pursuits to albemarles to carolina classics. He said the quality of grady out does the other three. The use of space outdoes all three. And he said the ride on the 33 was the best. He even said the albemarle 31 was a dog. But you have to remember everyboat is a compromise. As much as i like inboards and and a regular transom for fishing, the gw set up is nice and makes you feel good. Grady belives in giving its customers a boat that they will enjoy and i definitley enjoy the 33. The amt of room in cabin is huge. You can sleep 5 people comfortably. Plus, go ride on the 33 with twin 300s. The thrity three when getting up to plane does not rise its bow. Give the throttle some juice and it just gets on top. The 33 is one of the smartest boat designs i think ive ever seen. And boy does she catch fish. If you plan trolling ballyhoo for billfish, shes got a pretty wake and she raises billfish. Saw two custom 33s with towers this summer in Hatteras while fishing on citation. One came back to the marina with 3 white marlin flags flying and the other one had one. This winter in two days of fishing off florida keys we raised 6 billfish (sailfish) trolling rigged ballyhoo. Sorry for long response. t: t:
Grady will never be anything other than outboard boats....they don't have the facility space and they have already been down that road once back in the late 80's early 90's (could be off a few years there). Grady tries to build a UNIVERSAL boat....that can fit a hardcore fisherman, cruiser, or island hopper.....The 33 is my favorite Grady and I have fished on numerous days that we probably shouldn't have been out there...a felt comfortable the entire time. I don't think you will be disappointed with the 33..........
They are coming out with a 360 express this spring. I have seen it from a few yards away and it looks amazing. The prototype has trip F250s. I heard it would flat move for a 36' cabin express boat. FishingWuf has some pix in his photo album.
I am thrilled with my Marlin 300 but that may be my limit given dry stack ability. I still enjoy looking at the next models up however.
troll- the 36 is amazing in its layout, I spent hours on it last week. From left to right the 36, 33 30 and 28 were lined up at the NY boat show and by time you got to the Sailfish it felt like a row boat.
The 36 is huge, upscale, and more well thought out than virtually every other boat I went on and it just reeked of quality. (I'm ducking now) I believe the boat is already sold and that there is a waiting list since Grady is only making ten this year. The outboards create that aft cabin area that is actually quite usable and they claim that the economy is nearly the same as 330 in real world trials. I would love to go for a ride on it.
There are bringing one to the Raleigh show. I cannot wait to see it. Did you see any specs on the boat? Weight, beam, price?
I imagine it will be competing with some serious mid-30s twin diesels such as Albemarle, CC, Cabo, etc. Being more cabin and family oriented, I would expect the main competition so be the Cabos, Tiaras, and Stamas.
Price I remember was 397K- there are virtually no options everything is included. I think the weight was ~14,000 and the beam was around 13' (but I may be off on both of those) - there was horizontal rod storage under the hardtop going abeam. The mood lighting and crystal billfish partition in the cabin added a touch of class. I know the salesman very well if you want the exact specifics.
I think they offered two options: upgrade to deisel generator and outriggers.
The boat had everything you would ever want...and the cabin is a pure luxury feeling....including the pullout-drawer style refrig/freezer/icemaker in the cabin. Even had a slide out (pocket style) hanging cedar closest between the salon and midberth. I know I missed stuff...I was busy drooling too much.
On second thought I may be thinking about the 33 with those options.
Fishie1...you are right about the feel lining up those boats made...I went to look at the Marlin...I own a Sailfish....they BOTH felt small. Going to Boat Shows is like sex...the wrong part of your body starts telling your brain what to do
