Default Senator Responds on Permitting Requirement

Dear Mr. Schmaltz~Herring:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding S.2766, the Clean Boating Act of 2008. I appreciate hearing from you and appreciate the opportunity to respond.

S.2766 was introduced by Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) and is currently pending in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, of which I am a member. I am a cosponsor of the bill. The bill prevents the EPA from imposing a Clean Water Act permitting requirement on recreational boaters and anglers. As you know, this permitting requirement is the result of litigation brought by a handful of environmentalists regarding commercial ships, but all boaters consumers have been included in the regulation. S. 2766, permanently exempts boaters and anglers from any federal or state permitting requirement. The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, of which I am a member, passed the bill on May 21st, 2008. I voted for the bill in Committee, and look forward to supporting it when it comes to the floor.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please visit my webpage at http://isakson.senate.gov for more information on the issues important to you and to sign up for my e-newsletter.

Sincerely,
Johnny Isakson
United States Senator

I'm impressed. Does that mean someone in Washington is actually doing something other than campaigning?

It's called a form letter. Same one we got in Georgia.

I think that senators and congressmen actually like receiving comments on legislation from citizens. They like letters with checks enclosed even more. I am most impressed that a staffer actually wrote back to a fellow with the name Schmaltz Herring

You'd think that if it was a form letter someone would have corrected the gramatical errors along the way.

What else did you expect? He responded and the fact you all were concerned (as we all should be) is a known factor. I was not aware of the bill but will contact my Reps and Senators shortly. Waterat
