Default judge chesapeake 36..single inboard vs twin outboards

Looking at the Judge 36 on the website...it advertises the boat will cruise at 28 knots with the single diesel and is available with twin outboards.....the single diesel is a 425 cummings...or go with twin 250's on a bracket? Have the redundancy of twins and free up cockpit space (no box)...or go with the single diesel and probably better mpg...but then what about the cost of diesel vs gas...would it be more economical? Unfortunatly, it is hard to find any performance numbers to compare. Would the diesel outlast the outboards (diesel for 12 years or twins for 6 and repower?

whatcha think?

You need to describe how and where you will use the boat -- it makes a big difference in what's best if you run 75 hours per year or 300.

I don't know why you would want to run twin outboards on a boat that size. I'd go inboard all the way.

I would guess that the Judge hull will run smoother with the single diesel. IMO outboards on a hull of that type will be a tough to find a buyer for if you ever want to sell. I'm not trying to say that diesel is better than OBs, but on that hull most buyers would expect to have the inboard as that is far more common.

I know Judge is in the process of becoming a zuke dealer. My bet is that twin 250 or 300 zukes would make that boat roll. If you wanted twins and the shallower draft of outboards, I bet it would be a great boat. Of course the single inboard gives you the clean transom. I have seen Bill Judges personal 36 in his shop and out on the water. It is a beauty! The motor box is quite small in relationship to the giant cockpit on the boat. It is loaded to the gills and for sale as a demo on his site here: http://www.judgeyachts.com/specials.html

I like the single inboard. The motor box is far enough forward that it has zero effect on the cokpit for fishing purposes; and if you throw a cushion on it, amkes a nice place to sit while trolling. I hate fishing over the back of outboards, but that may just be me.

It is not just you, I also like the engine box, great seat, clean transom.

Being a pilothouse it has a nice level deck just above the water line so you can reach the water and offer good stability with sleek looks. It is a deadrise so the shallower draft gives you the engine box. It is not like an express with a step up mid ship to the helm or a deep v where you put the engine low in the bildge. Only way to do the boat without a motor box probably would be to raise the floor. I dont know though.

Email the guy here who owns one for better feedback: http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/t...166210&start=1

(edit.. the answer to the engine box is in that thread. A no engine box option is available)
