Default plumbing question

This question didn't get a lot of traction under a different title. I am rigging a macerator pump in my 221 mako fish box. Should I run plumb the hose out the origional through hull under the water line or out a new through hull above the water line. Can I do a y-valve so that the pump can be a backup bilge pump? What pump to buy? thanks

If no one knows, maybe you could try your question at the "classic Mako" site. Also check out Contenders, I think they have below deck fishboxes and macerators.

Had one in a 21 WA. Plum the outlet above the water line. Had a screen filter on mine also. Worked well but needed to clean the filter out about every two days if I caught a lot of fish. Did not try the 'Y' for an emergency pump but it should work.

I understand your dilemma...my 232 (same hull as yours ) has the same below the scupper outlet. My choice was a Kodial 32 gallon tank mounted behind the leaning post and right at the in floor livewell. Better than the in floor livewell and position on the boat creates enough fall for the original drain to work (I plumbed through the old livewell in the floor). If you decide to keep the original livewell you will only need the macerater pump plumbed into the original drain....don't drill another hole or Y into the bilge outlet...the macerater pump is "on demand" and will come on when overflow comes from the livewell...it creates plenty of flow to exit out the below water outlet already in place. Sorry..misread your first post as livewell not fish box...if you plumb into the original below water line drain WITH a macerater pump it will work. Greg

Both my fish boxes fee into a selector valve that sits above the deck, then to a waste pump that pumps just slighty above the water line. With the hose route high, there is no dager od a back fill situation. This is the pump that Scout uses and a typical diverter valve.
