Has anyone seen or driven the Seachaser which are new V models from Carolina Skiff? I've seen some literature. There is no info on the deadrise or really anything detailed on the construction.
Pooka, I am looking at the 24' Offshore model. Plan to test ride one this weekend. Will post up with results and impressions when I get back.
Cat Man, I searched the archives and active board here and could find no mention of the issues you refer to. Do you remember any of the details or threads in which these issues were brought up? I would be very interested in this info before I make a decision. One of the reasons I am really considering the Sea Chaser is because it is made by Carolina Skiff and they are a stable boat company with a good reputation for buidling a durable product and providing good customer service. If there is something here that I dont know about please fill me in.
3sheet, I posted some of the previous info on Seachaser. My son's best friend got the 4th or 5th one out of the mold a couple of years ago, it the smaller version the 20 or 21 footer. It had to go back to the factory, I know at least twice. The issue was soft spots in the deck. Upon return the second time Jay the owner was especially unhappy with the way the center console was re-installed. That being said, haven't heard of any other owners's with issues. I have been on the boat several times and it's very fast with a 200 Yami. Seas were flat everytime I was out but I'm sure with the boat being fairly light it will tend to pound in heavier seas

Not sure about the larger models but I would stay away from the 175. I was looking at them myself and thanks to this forum found out some problems to look for and found them while on a test ride.
I have a 2002 1800RG and love it...not one issue to be found. It's a good solid platform to fish from...and is the easiest to clean of any boat I've owned. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a center console in the moderate price range.
If you have tons of cash to unload on some of the so called hi end boats. Then don't buy a Sea Chaser, it will only hinder your need to spend large sums of money. I have had the 220 BayRunner since last March and it has been a very good boat in my opinion. I have only had one problem with the boat and that was due to the power tilt switch on the bow not being water proof. It caused my motor to go down by it self one day in a torrential downpour. I removed the switch cleaned it up and sealed it with permatex. No other problems. Boat goes far and trouble free. Good on gas also. I almost forgot the rod lockers will leak and were fixed with adhesive waterproof weather seal. No more leaky rod lockers.
Dont know anything about the rest of the line up for Sea Chaser, but here is a brief summary of todays sea trial on the 2400 Offshore:
Look hard for and could not find any soft spots in the deck. (Thanks for the heads up Cat Man). Good harware all over the boat. Bronze and Chrome over Bronze thru hulls with seacocks on all pump intakes. Console is thru bolted and glued with 5200, as is all of the rest of the hardware plus backing washers on cleats, lifting eye, etc... Everything in the bilge is relatively easily accessible. Fuel / water seps will be the toughest to get to and that will just take some practice. Lots of room on the console for electronics. (No compass as standard eqpt.)
There is a hatch outboard of the faux transom that could be a place for significant water intrusion. Also, the control cables coming out of the faux transom to the motors could have been routed higher. Better be tall or have long monkey arms to reach the electronics box while flat footed on the deck. (needs a kick down foot rest on the leaning post)
Unfortunately the boat was not prop'd correctly. Could only turn 4800 - 4900 RPM's at WOT (Twin Yam F115's; redline at 6k per dealer) but that pushed it about 43 mph. Cruise at 4000 RPMs gave us 35 mph. ( 50 gal fuel and 5 people onboard) Boat would plane on one motor if we shifted some weight to the front to help it out. I dont suspect this to be an issue once the motors are re-prop'd.
@ my local dealer where Ive purchased 2 semi v's from & these boats are solid, well made extra wide boats {8.5 feet}.
I bet you'd have no complaints with the boat & for the $ its a good boat. Ive been on the new bayrunner models & those are fully lined nicley made boats too.
IMO the only C skiffs I'd be carefull with are the rolled gunnel V hull seachasers, now i'm sure theres folk who are very satisfied with these boats as thier a great deal but Ive been on them and thier too light for a v hull & wobbly, but even those are built well & will last into the next ice age.
Check out a sailfish23, that's in this pricerange & maybe a better boat....
Still wanting to look at a Key West 2300. Only one KW dealer here in N. Texas and they dont have it. May go to the Mobile, AL or Biloxi, MS boat show to see if I can find one to look at. The problem I run in to around here is I am somewhat limited on product lines to view. Trying to stick with brands that dealers around here carry. Would love to have a Sailfish on my shortlist, but there is no dealer around here...

How did the test ride go on the 2400? Please provide details. I am also considering one
Thanks,
Tom

I would appreciate any additional information on the sea chaser's handling in rough weather ,dryness, etc. I have seen comments related to its lighter weight's impact on the ride. ]Originally posted by 3Sheets:

I dont view this boat as being a lighter weight boat. If you look at the specs the hull weight is 3375#. Compare that to the Key West 2300 at 2800# and the Sea Pro 235 at 3000# and it comes in heavy. With all of that said, was not able to get her in to rough water. Had to settle for ships wakes to get a feel for her. She seemed to ride smooth and take the sort steepness of a wake very well.
No one in the boat got wet at any point during the ride.
All in all, I was favorably impressed with the boat and will probably try to make a deal on her. Still want to get on a Key West before I make my final decision.
Thank you for the additional feedback. It is a small world. I have a deposit on the 2400 from Ed's marine at the Baltimore Boat Show. Great price as you said. Look forward to a Spring delivery.
I have a 210 sea chaser rg that I use for the Delaware Bay. I have not had a problem with it and would recomend it. The ride is rough in anything over 2' but its a light boat. For the money you can't beat it
