Default Carolina Classic 35 v. Henriques 35 express sport fish

I have read many posts on this board by very informed persons so I know you all can help me out. I am looking for a new or 1-2 yr. old 35 ft. express, heavy and fast, that is a great sea boat and will get a mile a gallon at a 30+mph cruise.I have narrowed it down to the Carolina and Henriques. I will visit the factory and sea trial each boat in the spring. The Henriques has a semi keel design I understand that influences ride in a following sea, is this true. What are the performance traits associated with the Carolina. I am looking at the Yanmar 500hp or the Cummins 480`s. Any comments on these motors. What about mech. v elect. engine controls.

For the money, what do you guys think about these two boats? Thanks in advance.

pura vida..I just went through the same thing as you..I just bought a new 35 c/c with the 480 cummins electronics.....I looked at them all...cant go wrong with either one, but i personally think the c/c is a better made boat...the boat is solid glass 1 inch thick throughout...its got a nice deep v in the front, and they changed the deadrise in the aft for better drifting....they make them like brick battewagons....the fit and finish on the c/c is great as well....i did my homework for many months and for my useage, mostly fishing..the c/c was the way to go....she flies with the 480's ....does about 40mph wot.....cruise at 32 mph ...went on sea trial and was truly impressed beyond my expectations..Ill look for the link that has the test results on the boat and repost for you..best of luck pal

Isn't life difficult?

Cant' say I can help with those two, wish I could though!! But I'll say this, they are both top notch boats.

Good luck!!

I have a cabo 31 with yanmars, and I have no trouble at all with the engines. What I like about them is they are all mechanical, no electronic controls at all, which means when your 50 miles offshore and the engine quits, you have a chance of getting it going again. As far as the boats go I have had a few CC's behind me when going out and was very impressed with the way they seemed to ride. I believe the hull was designed by the same individual who designed my boat.

I own a 2002 35 CC bought new in NJ (never again would I buy from Gary again) but in any case, the boat is very well built. Handles a following sea well but a little wet in a head sea for my taste. If you can swing it, get the 38 Henrique's. This boat is in a league of its own, totally different beast! The 38 will be my next boat in 2 years but until then I'll just enjoy what I have.

Good Luck

Good luck with the boats. I don't think you are going to get a mile a gallon though. A friend on a 36 Luhrs Express with 465 Yanmars cruises at 26-27 knots and gets approx. .8nmpg. Your average over a trip may be a mile a gallon if you do some trolling.

MY Carolina Classic gets 1.1 to 1.2 Nautical miles/gallon with Volvo 230's - 24-25 knots/3300 RPM when fully loaded for a canyon run. The CC's are tanks; you won't find a better fiberglass hull, but with all that weight you lose some speed and range.

Half empty and solo my CC28 will run 25+ knots/3300 RPM and get 1.4 NMiles/gallon.

I'm as loud a proponent of Carolina Classic as anyone but you should check around w/ some existing 35 owners on their speed/burn rate curves and make sure you get honest answers on the fully loaded numbers.

Hey Joe, I saw that listing last week, was considering going to take a drive next weekend to check it out if it's accessible. Not ready to buy yet but in research stage for the next one Have you been on your friends? How's the ride? How does it handle a following sea? Stable while drifting? I remember years ago being on the Viking Starship tuna fishing off Montauk and we had a whole fleet around us fishing in rough seas, and from what I could see it seemed like the only boats not getting beat up were a 50' Bertram and a 38' El Bravo. Never been on one though.

Haven't been on his 38 yet, but they fished the Hudson Anglers tournment with it this past year, and he said the the boat handled fine in those conditions although I think they only went out 30 or so miles.

I imagine the express would handle much differently, he's got a lot of weight up top with the tower. Good looking boat!
