25 hp mercury...returned!

During the break-in on a brand new out of the box Mercury 25 hp four-stroke something in the motor locked up. We took it to a mercury service dealer who fixed it, saying it was a blown bearing in the foot, but on the second trip out kept dying. I took it back to Academy, and asked for my money back. They gave me a refund for a trade, so I got the 20 hp mercury fourstroke. Am I in for another bumpy ride?

I am a dealer, not Mercs, but in their defense I have to say that not all the parts in your outboard are made by the "Manufacturer" of the engine. A lot of the parts are "standard" parts made for many other applications.
The mfg of those parts make literally thousands and thousands of those parts and once and a while one of those parts gets thru the many QC inspections and fails anyway....

It has always amazed me that there are not a lot more failures of parts esp bearings and power (comp) packs.

Merc has been around quite a few years and I think you will be very happy with your new 4 stroke....

After you get it and have puit a few hours on it...send us a post and let us know how it's doing.....

The warranty covered them fixing it, not taking it back. I had already lost all winter speck fishing in Back Bay, I wasn't going to lose all spring also. They didn't downsize, Academy had the 20's in stock, but no 25's, I am ready to FISH.
