Default Help me Decide - Sea Hunt Triton 207 vs. Pioneer Sport Fish 197 vs. Sea Hunt Ultra 210

Moving from a Key West 186 DC to a 20 foot center console. All 3 boats have Yamaha F150 - which I am fine with as I love my F115 on the Key West. Boat is used primarily for fishing and family outings. Any thoughts or recommendations on these boats.

Will the F150 push these hulls adequately? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

The Sea Hunt Ultra 210 is probably the best combination of fishing/family friendly boat you will find.
The Pioneer is a little bit better in fit and finish but the Sea Hunt layout and hull ride is well designed.
You would not be disappointed with any of those choices but the family will be more comfortable in either
of those Sea Hunt models.

Take a good look at the Pioneer. Not an owner but lucky enough to fish one. Great boat.

I vote for the pioneer.
I have looked at several sea hunts and pioneers lately. The sea hunts seem to be a good value but attention to detail is much better on the pioneer.

Thanks for the feedback - the Pioneer is one nice boat - really focused on the fishing. So no issues with the F150 on these boast? Also - are advice on price on these boats? Based on a few minor accessories they all fall between $32k to $35k - of course this is the price the dealers are quoting when asked and is not the "final" selling price. Anyway - what would be some suggested target prices for these boats. THe prices I am listing below do not include any electronics.

Pioneer 197 Sport Fish - $34,500 - Aluminum trailer and T top
Sea Hunt 207 with T-Top - $34,000 - Aluminum trailer and T top
Sea Hunt Ultra 210 - $32,000 - No T top includes an Aluminum trailer - also has fairly nice JBL stereo.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance

WOW!!! the 207 was only $26K here in VA. Florida dealers like to make lots of dough I guess.
Thats with aluminum trailer and t-top.

How is the hull design and ride on the Pioneer vs. the Sea Hunt - I believe that both Sea Hunt models the Triton 207 and Ultra 210 use the same hull with a different cap?

Remember - these are quotes - ie me stopping by and asking how much is that boat - which is must different from the final sales price - but that $26k number is good to know and indicated significant wiggle room - any target prices on the other models?

I can't speak for the pioneer but my 202 which is similar has a very dry ride and is comfortable in the chop.
Here are Yamaha's performance bulletins on the 2 Sea Hunt models. I didn't see one listed for Pioneer.

the f150 is a great match on the pioneer197. there are tons of happy sea hunt owners here, they make a good boat. the pioneer is bit nicer (comparable to scout 205 sportfish), and the quality and contruction is definately something you notice. if they are really all the same price, definately the pioneer, but I am thinking theres going the be a $3-5k difference.
I think you need to do some sea trials...you will know pretty quick i bet. I know many folks that take their 197s 20-30 miles out often.

good luck and enjoy the process and remember how lucky you are!

edit: i also noticed your KW is an 06. Why are you moving up so soon? Why a 20'? Why not make a bigger move?
I'm asking because I went from a 17.5 to a 20 and i've already got two-foot-itis after 1 yr. now i want a 24-26'er.

Excellent thanks - very similar results. I really appreciate you posting the links! Quick question - I can find your model the 202 on the sea hunt web site - am I missing something?

The Triton 202 was replaced by the Triton 207
2008 is the last model year for the 202
Similar hulls but the 207 has the euro transom.
Here's the link for the 202 for comparison.

I am in the process of selling my 99 Sea Hunt (which I loved) since I just purchased a 2007 197 Pioneer. I will tell you up front that had I not got the deal I got I would have not looked at Pioneer. I had all intentions of replacing the Sea Hunt with another one. I have had the Pioneeer for 4 months and love it. The hardware is exceptional, Layout is excellent, and handling is excellent. I have a 150 Johnson on it with T-top, 2 GPS, Depth Sounder, VHF, Stereo, Trolling motor, Etc. I bought this boat used so I am not sure what standard features are. The only thing missing is a washdown of any kind (not sure if this is an option). Either boat you decide on, I think you will be happy. Both are quality boats and the biggest differance is the $.

I have had my Pioneer 197 for almost two years and it has been excellent. Don't know how it compares to the other boats, I suggest several sea trials with each, and consider your needs. BTW, a wash down pump is an option on the 197, as I have it. Mine is powered by a Suzuki 150 FS and the match is perfect - the 150 Yam is a great choice, too. Plenty of power for that combo. With a t-top, spray shield, loaded to the eyeballs with stuff, ice, bait, a dozen rods, etc., full 73 gallon tank, two people, top speed is 47 mph, cruise at 4100 rpm and 30 mph, 4.8 mpg.

All those boats are very, very nice....It all depends on how much fishing vs family you will be doing. If you do alot with the family the Ultra is by far the best choice. The Pioneer is a great boat but not near as family friendly.....The console head in the two Sea Hunts is very, very nice for all the women in your life. You may want to call Custom Marine up in GA, probably only two hours max from you and see what their prices are. They sell both Pioneer and Sea Hunt and alot of folks will drive from Charleston to there to buy Sea Hunt b/c our local dealer is really high on his prices. Also if you go the Pioneer route you may want to look into one with a Zuke 150, they are offering their 6 year warranty until the end of the month and will also be close to a grand cheaper then the Yamaha.

Great feedback - I really really appreciate all of the comments from the THT Fourm Members - to answer Trout Pioneers question - we are just a bit cramped in the 186DC, the reason not much bigger is 5000lbs towing restriction on the small SUV I have and being relatively new to boating - I am not sure I want to take that big of a step just yet.

Again - keep the comments coming - I will call Custom Marine. Thanks!

Was that $26,000 for the Triton 210 with a T-Top?

I am assuming you mean a 210 Ultra, Ed's Marine Superstore in Richmond VA I believe is selling that boat for 29K with a t-top, trailer, and hull color. It may actually be cheaper now as Yamaha just started a new promotion.........
