Random Quote: Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn.

Default Honda 225 water pump experience

Has anyone ever had this problem while replacing the water pump in a Honda 225?

Have twin Honda 225 4 strokes. Port engine water pump went up, so I chose to replace water pumps in both engines while I had the boat out of the water.
Replaced the port engine pump 1st and then replaced starboard engine. Everything went well I thought. By the way I purchased the complete water pump kits not just the impellers.
Put boat back in water and I noticed that the starboard engine water pressure was no where near the port engine pressure. Sure enough after 2 minutes the over heat alarm went off.

It was pumping but with low pressure. Pulled lower unit off and checked the install saw nothing wrong, reinstalled lower unit with same result.
Pulled it again and redid all the gasketing and seals to be sure, same thing.

I came to the conclusion that the problem had to be that the water extension tube was not seating in the proper place in lower engine and most of the water was discharging through the exhaust port and not getting to the engine with enough pressure. So I decided to install the extension tube up into the engine 1st and install the lower unit and see if I could align the lower end of the water extension tube with the grommet in the top of the water pump housing, problem I had was that the water extension tube would not stay up in the extension casing with out holding it there, kept falling out. There is a grommet in the bottom of the extension case where the water extension tube passes thru, should this be a snug fit so that the tube would stay in place? Mine is a little sloppy and the tube slides back out. I finally was able to get it to stay in place and was able to get everything to line up and then my water pressure was the same as the port engine.

I am concerned that something still is not right since I had so much trouble with the starboard engine and had none with the port. What would be the reason that in 3 tries I was not able to get the extension tube to seat in the correct place. I ordered a shop manual prior to starting this project but they are out of stock. Replaced many water pumps on engines in the past and this is a 1st. :
