Default Opinions Sea Ray Laguna

I'm a new member here and I am currently looking at an 89 Sea Ray Laguna 23 cc with a 01 250 ox66. The price is very reasonable but I just wanted to get some general opinions. I will definatly get it surveyed. I've read a couple of revies about the hull and they were positive. Also from my limited knowledge the ox66 is a very reliable powerplant. Thanks.

I have same boat 1993. I have had it for 3 seasons and it has been a very good boat. It has pretty steep deadrise and is very heavy so it rides pretty well. If its choppy though make sure to bring foul weather gear because it is a wet boat. Lots of storage, especially the center hatch on the foredeck its huge under there. Overall I'm very happy with the boat.

That's a 20 year old boat with an 8 year old gas guzzling motor. They were good looking, innovative boats though.

My Neighbors have a 23 footer they repowered with twin Honda 130's and the transom is starting to pull back. The retards that they are have not repaired it yet going on 2 yrs. I think the 4 strokes are too heavy for that transom. The boat however sits level and drains well with that much weight on it.

'89 was the year that they discovered the transoms breaking loose on the Laguna models.

Make sure and have the surveyor check to see that the factory ordered repairs were done (correctly). Dealers were ordered to add a metal bracket to the inside of the transom next to the opening for the door. The bracket was suppose to help prevent the transom/deck and opening area from seperating and cracking.

Good luck!

Had a 1988 23' Laguna that we repowered from twins with a single mid 90's Yam 250 Saltwater Series. Good set up that served us well. Best thing we did besides the repower was to to add a 40 gallon bait well between the leaning posts. The hose was run thru the bottom of one post so that it came out the top part of the live well like a faucet, then used the other post for the out flow, down the middle of the post and out to a hole in the side we made just for it. Worked flawlessly for years unitl we sold it. Decent sea boat. Yes, a bit wet but heavy and stable. Caught many fish on it in the Bahamas, Keys and other parts of Florida. Always heard the transom could flex so we watched our thru hulls that were plugged from the twins. No issues.

Get inside the hull and look at the structure. I looked at a used laguna with twin 150s and found two non encasulated longitudinal stringers with few transverse bulkheads. The stringers were tabbed in with glass patches but not encapsulated and were rotting. In the back in the center there was a storage area made of 3/8 plywood that was painted and was rotting.Above deck everything looked great. buyer beware.
