Investigators from the Collier County Sheriff’s Office are on the lookout for another "go-fast" boat, which was stolen overnight from its North Naples slip.
This is at least the 12th high-end boat stolen from Collier County since June 2007. Other than a 41-foot sailboat stolen in November, authorities believe all the boats have been stolen for human-smuggling purposes.
The boat’s owner, Richard Corace of Naples, told deputies his 36-foot Yellowfin was taken sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday from 435 Launch Circle, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The boat has a yellow hull, a white top and triple 275-horsepower Mercury engines.
On Feb. 1, a 2007 Fountain pleasure boat worth $285,000 was stolen from North Naples lift, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Since June at least eight high-end boats were stolen from City of Naples docks.
Two were swiped from Marco Island in December and January.
Smugglers have been targeting "go-fast" style boats over 30 feet from Southwest Florida and around the state for the past year.
Anyone with information about any of the missing boats is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at (239) 793-9300 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS.

I guess they have slowed down on the old Customs "Marine Enforcement" Detail that they used to run back in the 80's because they always had radar intersept boats out in all South Florida, the Keys and Southwest Florida...

Hello? Police...my guess is they are headed South, then North, then South, then North.
And I thought I was having a bad say b/c some stole my ice chest from the back of my truck. This makes me want to throw up. I hope he's not about to get a crash course in what his policy limits are. Best of luck Richard.

I'd say that losing a boat worth a few hundred thousand dollars and going through all the hassles that accompany that may call for a little sympathy from fellow boaters!
DrJim - 4/29/2008 9:50 AMAt this point its hard to be sympathetic...

I think it calls for a little more caution on the part of owners of these boats. It is no secret they are being targeted. It is a bummer that this is the situation, but it doesnt excuse them from not taking whatever mesures are necessary to protect their property.
1. GPS device. 2. Render the trailer immobile. 3. Render engines unstartable if in a slip.

You are right Judd. Like everyone else my boat is a huge part of my life. But I also agree with Jim to an extent. This happens all the time down there.... If you own one of these boats do someting about it. At the very least get a friggin Lo-Jack!
I do hope that the guy was insured. Best way to make yourself feel better about the boat you lost is getting the delivery on the new one!

You are assuming the owner did none of these....

We were coming back from Miami in tow and needed diesel for the truck. As soon as we exited the off ramp in Naples we were greated by the blue lights. The so-called "reason" for stopping was we had no tow straps on the rear end of the boat. More likely the deputies were interested in the legalities of our boat. Weren't interested in the paper work to the truck or driver but asked for the boat and trailer regs and made sure the hull confirmed. So it is obvious that this is a major issue in Naples. Im glad they did pull us over. I hope they pull the right one over next time.
They are not haitians, they are spicks , and should be shot in the head. Every one on the boat should. I bet there are about 50 spicks on it right now.
I am SO glad that we are all above racism here on THT. Jessa, that was so uncalled for.....do you not think you may have interacted with fellow members on this forum that are from Cuban decent?
I'm Irish, so throw a potato at me, but PLEASE, think about what you typed. I've seen your interactions on this foru and they always seems fair and reasonable.
