Went test ride a boat today and the F200 made a faint squeaking noise right before I picked it up. It was not loud, but should this be a cause for concern. The motor is a 2002 with 49hrs. The boat was dealer maintained each winter. What do you guys think!
Not very familiar with the four strokes, but sounds like it might be a worn belt (like a car)
Hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will chime in.
If you will search down this list you will find it discussed at length, I have a new F200(July 07) that has less than 50 hours and since new I heard a slight noise at idle and I am told
it is the belt and just to spray silicone on it.
That seems to fix the problem but I have not done mine yet, I only hear it at idle speed

I have 150 ,s and it also has that so called squeaking noise I was told by the dealer it may be the water pumps. I have 240 hrs on motors. I could not find anymore threads on this subject
Then be sure and look at the link SIM posted from Hotspots post about how to fix it.....I havent had a chance to deal with mine yet, but hopefully will next week.

I thought you were never supposed to spray anything on the belts?
The squeal is most likely the drive shaft bushing. I greased the driveshaft with this special Yamaha brown grease I got from SIM, and its totally quiet now.

Thanks for that link, I spoke with Yamaha and they said they have special grease that they use and its under warranty Thanks again Hoejef
Hoejef....when you say you spoke with Yamaha, and its under warranty....does that mean fixing the problem completely (ie...they do all the labor and supply the parts, meaning take it to your local Yamaha Rep and they do it "no cost") or does it mean they'll send ya a free tube of grease??!!
Thanks
