Default Marine grade plywood??

G3 boats has the Angler 18F boats with marine grade plywood that they state has a lifetime warranty. Will this wood really last the life of the boat or is there a time limit on how long it lasts? Will the boat with this deck material last me at least 15 years?

Even if they used exterior plywood like alot of manufactures did int the past it would last 15 years.

If it is sealed good it will last. Moisture rots wood. If it isn't sealed or if you drill wholes all through your transom then it will not.

Here is what your talking about.

http://www.greenwoodproducts.com/xlpanels.htm

The warranty is for the replacement panel ONLY! It does not include any other materials and labor.

Great marketing gimmick!! Doug fir Marine ply in polyester resin will last 30 years. How old will you be then??? I just ripped out a 1976 transom 3/4 of the plywood was perfectly fine . . . Total PIA to rip it out, but I was redoing as a 25" instead of 20".

Is this what G3 uses for the decking and floors in the Angler boats? I'm worried about the carpeting staying wet and rotting the plywood decking.

If it is Greenwood XL panel then the warranty does not only cover the cost of the panel. During the first 10 years of ownership (and it is transferrable) they will pay the cost to remove and replace the panel. After 10 years, their warranty then replaces the faulty material and the labor to do so, but not any other labor or materials for other equipment removal etc. I know of a case recently where there was a claim on a transom that the Greenwood was bad on a 4yr old boat. Greenwood was prepared to foot a $7K bill to remove engine, cut the transom, remove the materail, replace it, then put everything back together. They had a surveyor come in and check the material where a small core sample had been drilled. turned out the material was completely intact.

That is incorrect.

I havethe full copy of Greenwood's warranty document. And no, it is NOT the warranty that appears on the link in the above quote.

It is actually a very comprehenisve warranty. In a nut shell, the terms are as follows: For the first 10 years, they cover everything. The replacement wood product, the labor to replace the wood product, and all associated materials. After the first 10 years, they cover the replacement wood product and the labor. The associated materials are not covered after the first 10 years. The terms of the warranty I have just outlined pertain to the original owner. The terms do change for subsequent owners. When I obtained the warranty directly from Greenwood, I was only interested in the terms as it pertains to the original owner. Contact Greenwood directly and they will provide you with the full warranty document. That's what I did back in '04.
