Garmin Transducer w/ Temp

I posted this in the electronics forum with no luck. Reposting in the boating forum since there are generally more people watching it....

I have a Garmin Fishfinder 240 Blue. The transducer that came with it has an integrated temperature probe. When I initially start the boat, it the temp reading is approximately correct (+/- a few degrees from my Furuno). After a few minutes, the temp on the Garmin starts increasing. After about 15 mins it reads in the high 80s while the Furuno still shows in the mid-60's.

Is this a problem with the transducer, the depth finder, or is the transducer mounted too close to the engine and picking up the vented exhaust (its an outboard that vents through the prop)?
