Default What makes you more happy? Buying a boat or selling your boat?

I know all the sayings, but since I have done both a few times, what makes you more happy? For me I am more happy when I buy but I can tell you that I was very happy a few times when I sold some of my old boats. I do remember selling 3 boats over the years that I wish I never did sell. Dang now I am confused. lol

After having 19 boats so far (and currently looking for #20), it is much more fun buying them than selling them.

But one does lead to the other. I need to sell one to buy one.

Happier? Buying.

Necessary? Selling.

Not a 50/50 proposition, but I'd say 75/25, with buying getting the happier feeling.

And yeah, there have been a few that I wish I still had. Not that they were great boats, but I had a blast with them.

Good times!

I sleep better after one is sold, but staying up all night glued to a Defender catalog is good dope...

Both. Unfortunately neither day seems to EVER happen at the optimal time.

^^^^^^^

The short list includes: (all new)

25 Davis Rock Harbor Short Cabin

255 SteigerCraft

232 Grady

24 Skipjack with the custom pilothouse (it comes std as an open, but they'll customize it, and hopefully gas, not the std diesel)

Shopping is fun!

Buying, because I always upgrade. If gas continues upwards, it might be awhile for I get that happy feeling again.

I think CS has a 25 Davis Rock Harbor for sale but its used. Here local in SF area. the 255 I saw at the boat show nice, they had 2 of them, one of them the Hard Top was to short for me tho, I don't remember witch one it was? The GW 232 is nice! Good beam I hear you should go with twins on the 232, 200hp or no lower then the 175hp. Good Luck shopping.

Thanks for the tips! Sounds like we were at the same shows (San Mateo, Pleasanton and Sacratomato).

Yeah, I'd prefer the 232 with the twin 200's, but the dealer is pushing me towards the std 150's (it's what they stock). I did have a conversation with the factory rep at the P-Town show, and he was talking up the new 350 as a single for it.

I'll only go new, unless it is a cream-puff like the Scout was that I recently sold. And salt-water boats that are in that good of condition are hard to come by.

Sounds good. Yes we were at the same show, I also got to go to the LA Show as well. The LA show was much bigger and better. I was looking hard for a 232 and almost made offers on a few, the guys who have the single don't like them and I hear they are slow. One guy I talked with had the twin 175hp and he said he would not go any lower. Thats just what I heard, a 350 I would think would do the trick. I myself have had singles and twins and I tuna fish offshore so I live the twins and the way the boat handels with twins. I would never go back to a single. Just my 2 cents. Your scout was very nice and clean, someone got a great deal on that boat. The 255 has perked my interest. SC is new to me, but I liked the boats and the price was very good for a new boat.

If your buying a 232 new I'd go with twin 200s. We've got a 300 single on ours and it's nice but no comparison to twins.

Regarding the original questions - Buying is definitely better but whoever said catching a 50lb wahoo is right.

Buying is more Fun! The day I sld my last boat I got a call that a buyer wanted to come test drive it and take it away if it was a good test ride, I got the call as I was looking at the boat I wanted to buy and needed the cash from the sale. It was a good day

Buying and looking is so much damm fun!! Part of selling is knowing that as soon as its sold you can start looking for that newer bigger boat!! lol Thats my feeling on the matter. I have a crazy addiction to buying and selling boats!! Does this make me a bad person???
