Default Dry Storage Rack Question

This may seem like a silly question but I am thinking about putting my boat in a local marina in a dry rack. This is a new rack system being installed and I stopped by to check progress and noticed the rack boards were cut square with no 18 to 20 % angle cut on them. The marina manager said they had routed the sharp edges but did not plan to cut angles on the boards, should this be a concern or is it a non issue?

Default RE: Dry Storage Rack Question

Depending on your hull configuration and chine location it could be a problem. I now have a special rack and special work racks for my 23 SeaCraft at my marina.
Because the edges of the rack were square when the boat settled in the rack right at the chine the hull was damaged by the nails that held the carpet on the wood. After repairing the hull twice they cut back the edges and rolled the carpet another 6" down the inside of the rack.
I would suggest to do a trial fit to make sure there are no issues.

Default RE: Dry Storage Rack Question

This particular marina does not use carpet on the bunks, they claim carpet causes blisters. They prefer to use just the wood, I tend to disagree but I would just be renting a dry slip so I do not think I have much room to argue. If the owner would let me cut and carpet the bunks he would probably have a new customer but I have not asked yet.
