Default Bottom paint? Is $45 per foot a good price?

Its a 22 ft boat that has never had bottom paint since it has always been out of the water, is $45 per foot a good price? It would come out to $1000 even for a 22 ft boat. Im new to boats, so I don't even know the quality of the paint or anything like that, im just trying to get some basic figures.

1. Sounds high to me.

2. Make sure they do not sand the bottom first. The bottom should be chemically dewaxed and then painted. No sanding.

3. Also $$$ depends on the type/quality of paint.

My boat (Pursuit 2470) warranty states that if you sand the bottom prior to bottom painting it may void the warranty. There is no reason to sand first. Find someone else.

PRice is many times indictitive of the region your located in. Its unfair for people in less affluent areas to quote you on price. Price is driven by the reputation of the dealership/yard and price compared to others in the area.

Thats about the lowest price I was quoted....As far as I know all the places lightly sand
the bottom....I was also quoted up to 75 per foot...there is a big difference in price for
a repaint than doing the painting for the first time....
Have somebody do the first time painting and then its fairly easy after that....

our yard is near Annapolis md for a new boat 22' we dewax the hull, apply sandless primer, apply 3 coats micron csc your choice of color(black, blue, red) for about 700.+/-
and we gurantee it sticks

so if your getting quotes of 75. per foot please consider bringing it here

i'll do it for 74/ft

really, 1000. for a new paint job and the first is the most important, guess it depends on the area

Where are you ?, how old is the boat?, are they including barrier coat?

all of these factor in...plus the type of paint

I am in SoFla...getting 3rd bottom job on same boat. haul, pressure clean, some scraping, acid wash, paint, re-launch...$30 ft (incl. tax), 28 ft WA

plus spec'l primer on trim tabs and paint.......in 2005, this same job was $14 per ft

Sanding should be OK as long as you do not have a vinylester gel coat. If you do have a vinylester coat, the hull needs to be degreased first and then it needs a coat of sandless primer before painting.

Slow, Why are you painting the bottom? If you are going to keep it on the trailer, don't paint!

That depends on the type of gelcoat. If Vinylesther or something like that you dewax and prime with non sanding primer then you paint over the non sanding primer. Works pretty good or until you hit something solid and scrape some gelcoat and antifouling with it.

If you sand gelcoat that has a 5 yr. warranty you void warranty.

If you do not have sandless primer you will have to have it sanded, Barrier Coat applied, etc. $$$$$$$$$ and no warranty against the pox.
