Default Fish & Ski boat comparison

I am going to be purchasing a fish & ski boat in the next few weeks. I'm planning on something in the 19' range with a 150 hp motor. It will be used 70% for fishing and 30% for family relaxation, skiing, etc...

I've been leaning towards more of a bass boat outfitted for skiing (Nitro, Stratos, Triton, etc). The other type is a runabout setup for fishing (Bayliner, Tahoe, etc). From what I understand the Nitro, Stratos and similar boats run shallower which is their main advantage for fishing. Having an outboard is also nice because I can take it out during the cold months when an I/O would be winterized. Are there other differences and how substantial is the difference in draft? I think my wife would really prefer a Taho with I/O, but I want to understand where/how that will slow down my fishing addiction.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm new to the forum and really appreciated the response to my last post.

I know this doesn't really answer you question, but have you checked out the triumphs? Like a 190 Bay or 191 F/S

They are very "multipurpose" and versatile boats. As long as you can handle the low gloss finish of the Roplene in exchange for the decreased maintenance . You could even put a 175hp on the 191

p.s. Im not a triumph salesman, just a fellow owner.

Years ago I had a 1992 Stratos fs 274,a fish and ski bass boat, mistake selling it.Had more fun on that boat then my dual console bass boat that I now own.A fish and ski boat can at least seat 5 people comfortably, they usually have a built in stereo and a canopy top is always offered, get that option. Also most fish and ski bass boats will have a higher freeboard which makes most folks more comfortable.Quality wise,Ranger,Triton,Stratosr Stratos most bang for the buck by far.

The Nitro, Stratos, Triton, etc types have more space given over to the fishing decks, less for the cockpit. They are also lower profile, so the cockpit depth is not so much. All good stuff for fishing or any adult activity. Moms like the deep cockpits of the I/O bowriders to keep their younguns safer. Or at least a little more out of the wind. As for brands, I dig the Skeeters myself. If you do go the I/O bowrider route, also check out Caravelle.

The old saying, "Jack of all trades, and master of none" comes to mind when I hear "fish & ski".

My advice is to get a boat that you are comfortable with in your waters, and then build it up to the way that you want it.

But hey, that is just me...

Good luck!
