I would like to rent a place in the keys with my family... Looking for some advice on a good affordable place to stay... I have a 23 foot center console that I would like to have at a boat slip. I have never been to the keys so any advice of where not stay is also appreciated.
I plan on doing a lot of fishing and I know nothing about the keys.
I was hoping something would be available around April 1st. I know that’s wishful thinking being so close. If the trip does not happen this month I might shoot for July.
Visit VRBO.com, there are hundreds of houses, condos, trailers etc. for rent. We are going down to Marathon in June. April to June are hot fishing months in the Keys. Things slow a bit offshore in the mid to late summer but there is always something to fish for, either inshore or offshore. First thing to do is to pick a region of the keys to visit.
The keys are identified by the Mile Marker in which they are located. So you will see MM 105 and that is in Key Largo which lies about an hour south of Miami. MM "0" is Key West and the end of the road, literally. There is a diverse world of difference in the 100 miles or so that separate Key Largo from Key West, so do your research and ask a lot of questions and you will find what you are looking for. You can't go wrong on any of the Keys.

In the Lower Keys you can try www.waterfrontkeys.com which has places here in Venture Out for rent. Your boat is right outside your back door. Easy access to both ocean and gulf sides, fuel at the marina store, power washer, fish cleaning table, ramps, pool and stuff if the family is coming with you. Close to Key West [we're at mile marker 23, so basically 19 miles to Key West, 25 to Marathon].
We stay at the Ragged Edge every year in Islamorada across the street from Founder's Park. They have 14 units. Look out your window and see your boat and Atlantic ocean. We like the upstairs 2 bedroom with large balcony next to the pool (great pool). Great view all the way around, however there are no bad rooms. Big kitchens. Friendly atmosphere and free bikes at the office. Nice deep water boat ramp. Google their website.
Having been several times....Big Pine Key is the place....quick run to Looe Key....incredible snorkeling, can fish the back side easily if it's windy....(it will be)....lots of coral heads to fish the front side....all the services you will need on the island....most of the rentals have dockage....be sure to ask how long/far they are, by water, from the main channel...some are as much as 25-30 minutes at idle speed to get out and go....Mick
There is a guy on here that has a rental on Marathon, in the Sombrero Beach area. I have't been to his house, but the neighborhood is great, and in a great area for boating. Not to far from Key West for a little land fun, but is a true "Keys" area.
He'd be a first choice for me, and I lived down there for 3 years...
