Default Lost on the Bay Boat to get.

Hello all,
I am new here and glad I found such an informative site. I am looking to buy a new to slightly used bay boat. Live on FL treasure coast and want something I can play on the flats and near shore with. Looking to buy soon and have looked at almost every type of bay boat I can think of. I was going for the Polar, however have found countless post of warning to look the other way. It is a 2006 2010 bay with a F115 Yam on it. Also looking at the sailfish and sea hunt bays they cost 5-10K more. If you could please give a lost fisherman some advise before I waste my money I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Hogan

Have you seen these yet? A pretty popular choice (at least on forums besides THT)

triumphboats.com

I owned the 19' bay and overall felt the boat was a good value, very versatile, and my only complaint would be some fit and finish issues, but from what I have seen on more recent models they have improved in this area. All in all a good no nonsense boat.

If you have any specific questions just PM me.

Apparently, you are looking for a low price boat. Check out the 19' and 21" Sea Pros. They are a good value.

The only problem with the Polars were gel coat issues in like 2004 i think that have been cleared up. I like the lay out on that polar 2010 and had zero problems with my 2002 21bb. However, I think its under powered with the 115.

A nice used Boston Whaler Montauk makes an very good affordable bay and flats boat. Also very safe and ecomical. Visit continuoswave.com and click on discussions for extensive information on that boat, if interested.

For skinny water go with a skiff. 2290 Riddick Bayrunner. Best skiff on the market.

I have a 2005 SeaPro sv2100 with garmin 178c I am getting ready to put up for sale. I am in Jacksonville but could get it to you. This is great for inshore and off. I was out 13 miles today. Has a Honda 150 on it and been dry stacked since I bought it.

I hear those Tidewater 21's are a nice boat, good power with the F150, and cheaper than comparable boats......and I owned a SeaHunt 22BX for 2 years, its a good boat, but make SURE you look for the BX-T (2007+) models, not the standard BX 22's(2005-2006 had scupper backwash problems). I own a Sailfish CC now, and think the over all construction and parts are a notch above the SeaHunts (granted they cost a notch more too) Just food for thought......

Default RE: Lost on the Bay Boat to get.

Flats and near shore normally means oyster beds and sand bars.

I am another that suggests looking at Triumph and probably the 190 Bay or 170 CC.

Unfortunately I am old enough to remember the bashing fiberglass boats received from wooden boat owners, and the same is happening today with fiberglass owners on plastic boats.

I will be the first to say that Triumph boats are not for everyone, but they are for my family. AND – any boat is better than not having a boat.

True – Triumphs do have to be supported correctly on a trailer. Putting them on a trailer not designed for them can cause a problem. The key word is “can”.

True – Triumphs do flex, and my back and knees sure appreciate that fact.

False – Triumphs do not do well in the hot sun. The color is the same all the way thru the material, from top to bottom. There is no gel coat to crack, fade or polish (I like NOT polishing).

True – For cleaning, use a pressure washer or take it to a do it yourself car wash. Not much easier than that.

True – Many northern Triumph owners use hammers and baseball bats to remove the ice from their boats before trailering south for a winter vacation. Try that on a fiberglass hull. And while many of us will never use a hammer or a bat on our boat, it is my belief that most of us will hit a dock too hard or find something hard in the water to run our boat into.

What sold us is a local boat rental place that is still renting out old late 1990’s plastic boats. They store their rentals on racks designed for glass boats - not plastic. They keep replacing engines, but the boats keep going. They claimed that these boats have hit every oyster bed, sand bar, mangrove, bridge, dock etc. in Sarasota County and they just keep coming back for more punishment.

The Triumph Boat Owners web site is http://www.triumphowners.net/. This site is designed for owners of Triumph boats to share information.

Just my opinion, but like many manufacturers, their product keeps getting better every year. Do your sea trials and pick rough days.

We still love our 2005 model and have had none of the problems other keep posting on this site about. Maybe we are just lucky, but based on the comments of hundreds of other owner’s I do not believe that for a minute.

These are really nice Bay boats as well. You can option them out pretty well if you want options or just get a stock boat.
