***** Stolen Cigarette This Past Weekend ****
I still can't believe I'm writing this -but I am asking everyone in OSO for a HUGE favor.
Sometime between this past Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning my 28 Cigarette Open, named Summer Sleigh, was stolen from the yard where it stays all winter in Gilford New Hampshire -Lake Winnipesaukee for those of you that know the area.
There are many other high perforance boats much more valuable than mine (multiple Cigarette's of all types) Scarabs, Donzi's, a few cats in the same yard for the winter -but somebody spent what is being guessed at 20-30 minutes pulling my boat specifically out of the snow to get at it. (They had to pull a Ski Nautique out of the way and leave it in the middle of the parking lot in order to get to it!)
Please: If anyone has seen this boat on the highway, the side of the road, another yard -anything at all- please contact myself or the Gilford NH police department as soon as you can.
Gilford NH PD Contact: Officer Kelly Seager 603-527-4737.
I am going to post a couple of photos showing what it looks like on the trailer in the next message.
That reallt sucks! A friend of mine had his boat stolen last winter at his summer cottage in NH. He had it chained to a tree in his yard. They plowed the driveway to get to his boat- damn thieves!
Best way to prevent this is to remove the wheels for the winter. Hard to trailer a boat with no wheels.
Sorry to hear about your boat Andrew. Have you notified the Coast Guard and US Customs. Boats like this one and many high end automobiles get shipped to other countries in containers. It may have been stolen by drug runners also.
This type of boat could easily be loaded down with explosives, and used to do severe damage to one of our war ships while in port.
I would also notify the DOT in your state and in the border states. You could send a fax to them with pics and vins. You might consider putting flyers in some of the major truck stops. Offer a reward, based on what you can stand, and what its worth for you to get it back.
Don't count on law enforcement to do anything. I'm not saying that they won't. But my mothers car was stolen a couple of years ago. And believe this, after looking for it for four days I found it. And after I did all of the leg work they wouldn't arrest the perp. I really wanted to just terminate the bastard myself, but would have risked everything for an automobile.
I'll keep an eye out.
I can only imagine how you must feel about now.
I don't want to paint a bleak picture or anything but I think the boat will surface in the spring all shinny in a different color, drive and trailer. They probably needed yours so they have a matched set to do the switcharu.
It's bloody crimimal how brazen these crooks are becoming. I take it the yard does not have surveillance cameras or anything.
Do You Have Enough Insurance Coverage? Besides that question, I truly hope they find the basters and hang them by their balls.
Got a call this AM from the Lexington MA police department. Overnight last night, someone parked the boat at the end of an affluent neighborhood cul-de-sac just outside Boston and about 100 miles from where it was stolen.
The criminal(s) that did this spent the last 48-72 hours surgically removing anything and everything possible from the boat.
Not sure what's worse right now, having it gone or having it hooked to the back of the Suburban without the radar arch/engine/outdrive/trim tabs/brand new bolsters/dash/stereo/gps/fire extinguishers/swim platform/literally every piece of upholstery and a dinged up trailer. (And that's without even getting into the boat.) What they did leave behind -was fingerprints.
We will get you.
The Lexington PD said the neighbor that called it in was a boater, and although there is no way to track this back to OSO, I have to say thanks again to everyone.
The responses and advice and interest has been nothing short of tremendous.

Yeah really! I had a jet ski stolen from my house in Florida several years back. They stole it about 2:00 am and by 6:00 am it was found floating in a canal about 6 miles away COMPLETELY stripped. The only thing left was the bottom half of the hull. It made a nice planter though.

Wow- Lexington, MA-WoW! I didn't think criminals even knew where Lexington is. Hope the prints match up- My guess would be the bastard spent some time in jail at one point.
Had my boat stolen from a mechanics facility 2 years ago. A heavily fenced in compound, torched the gate, they moved 3 boats to get at mine. Well to make a long story short it was recovered, totally striped of just about everything, both outboards steering wheel, radar arch, bait well, you name it , it was gone. They even tried to get the Armstrong bracket off, but 5200 won. Well I had it totaled, managed to keep the trailer. My buddy bought it from the insurance company and it's just about redone, minus what I had on it! But it looks pretty good!
A 28ft Cigarette Open cruising through the streets of lexington, MA . . . Someone had to have seen the make/model of this vehicle. The town is too populated to seek around with a 28ft boat.
Sorry to hear about your loss . . . hopefully your insurance company will come through.
