Awlgrip has thier own patend color named Fighting Lady Yellow. It's a popular color we've painted many hulls with it.

There was a post a while back regarding Fighting Lady Yellow. The short of it - The color was named after a good looking sport fisherman "Fighting Lady" that was painted pale yellow, the boat was docked in South Florida.

I believe one of the original 37 or 43 Merritts was named "Fighting Lady" and it's hull was yellow. thus the name of the colour. the same boat is still on the water today but ironically it is now light green or blue I believe.

Just checked again and I was correct. It is a 43 Merritt and was hull #22. It was owned for some time by Joe Lopez. Now owned by someone else in South Florida and the hull is green.

wikipedia

Fighting Lady (USCG #555908, Hull #22) was Merritt's last frame boat, built in 1974 for Dinny Phipps. The Fighting Lady was the inspiration for the now popular color "fighting lady yellow" and was later owned by Joe Lopez. Lopez renamed the boat the Prowess and towed it around the world behind a mothership throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The boat now renamed Fighting Lady is owned and operated by Bart Sherwood, who runs frequently out of Miami, Florida. Despite its namesake color, the boat has been repainted seafoam green.

The boat at the Sailfish Marina is a 1963 Andy Mortenson that has been completely restored a few years ago in Annapolis, here is the link http://www.fightingladysportfishing.com/

Default Clarification

This is such an old thread that I'm sure no one cares, but came across it and wanted to add some details.

The 1963 Andy Mortensen was the original "Fighting Lady" built for Ogden Phipps. Phipps later built a 43 Merritt and kept the name "Fighting Lady", both hulls were painted fighting lady yellow.

Until a month ago the Andy was a charter boat at Sailfish Marina in Palm Beach, it is now chartering out of Blowing Rocks Marina in Jupiter (same name, color and contact info). The Merritt is now painted green (sea foam green I believe). The awgrip paint was named after Merritt even though it wasn't the "Original" Fighting Lady.

I think he owned a restraunt or something and the boat wintered in Boca. Imagine the captain of that boat at the bar having a few drinks with the other capts.
