v 20 wellcraft center console

Has anyone ever replace a gas tank in one of these? My friend has an 1985 and is looking at a tank replacement. Is it under the console? Do you have to cut the deck? I hear it is foamed in and difficult to remove. Any advise would be helpfull. Thanks

Some early V20s (mine was a '78, I believe) had saddle tanks on each side under the gunwhales, roughly amidship.

My brother replaced the tank in his and I know he didn't cut the deck. I think he had to remove the console

My first real boat was a V20'. Your tank is probably amidships, under the console. You have to completely remove the console (really not that bad), unscrew and remove the lid, and remove the tank. As I recall there was foam around it that I had to cut out before removal. I replaced it with a gray polypropeline tank of equal size.

Had a 1981... We did not cut the deck. There was a lid. I think we were able to unscrew the cosole & slide it out of the way. It was foamed in & it took quite a bit of work to scrape/chip out the foam that held it in. Then we bought some kind of expanding foam like what was in there which we mixed & poured in to set the new tank...
