Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
Well I knew the Verados were different, but I really had no idea. It'll take some getting used to. After being a satisfied owner of Yamahas for the past 5 years, I can honestly say there's no real comparison and Yammi has some catching up to do IMHO.
They are the quietest I've ever heard (or not heard). You can hear them in idle, although barely.
The weird thing after owning Yamadogs for the past 5 years will be getting used to the throttle response. Wow, you just can't imagine the difference. It's not even like a 2 stroke, it's even faster, much faster. To say the throttle response is instantaneous is an understatement.
I almost fell over taking off the first time. The boat literally planes out in about 2 seconds and that's no exaggeration.
The other weird thing is not having to push it into gear. I kept waiting to hear the loud grind and CLUNK of the Yamaha lower end, but there was none. Barely a click. It's hard to describe, but I'm so used to feeling the resistance of the cables that it's easy to lurch the boat forward thinking you're not even in gear yet. That was the second time I almost fell over. I didn't realize it was already in gear and pushed forward on the throttle.
Not hearing the motors go into gear is NOT a problem you'll have with my Yamahas.
Anyway, I think I'm really going to like this motor.
BTW, the boat is a used 08 that looks like it was never in the water. The guy changed his mind and went from a SV2400 Sea Pro bay boat to a 29' Monterey, the exact opposite of what I'm doing. The boat rode surprisingly well. It cut right through what ever chop I could find and track down. I even went through the wake of a huge freighter. I was expecting a bang, but it rode surprisingly well.
I'll post pics when I get it home next week. I'm having a power pole and some other stuff added.
I haven't made up my mind on the jack plate yet. I may wait on that.

Welcome to the club, once you go black you never go back! This is what I keep saying, everyone wants to bash the Verados, but once you actually run one, you have no idea what you're been missing out on!
Re: Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
Thanks. I know some will think I'm exaggerting, but if anything I'm downplaying it a bit. I was honestly expecting a lot and was afraid I was setting myself up for a disappointment. It was the opposite, I can honestly say it exceeded my already lofty expectations.
Don't get me wrong, Yammi makes a solid, dependable motor, but you honestly cannot even say it's in the same class as the V. I deliver my Sailfish Sunday so as of now I still own it. So I can say I really like my Yammi's but I love the V Rat.

exactly...I've been trashed here for 3 years saying the same thing...it's different....it's a system.....yeah it costs more but it gives back value for the extra cash....
RE: Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
This sounds a lot like I did after spending two days on John (Darbikrash)'s SeaHunter 35 with the V300s. I was impressed because I'd heard they were nice, but you really have to be at the helm to understand.
So what if they shift like silk, are stone quiet and get good mileage? I'd still like a set painted white..................
Re: Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
Which V did it have? I sold my speed toy last year and get the itch occasionally.. Next year I may have to scratch it and trade up my SV2100 to something fast. The 24 with a 300V would be high on the short list.
Re: Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
The Digital Throttle and Shift is tops right now. Until other manufacturers are able to move to their own version, I just can't see anything but Verado on any hull I would own. WAY out front in terms of innovation, and real world difference between otherwise fairly good\equal engines.

It has a 225. I'd really rather have the 250, but this was just too good a deal to pass up. The guy only owned it 6 months then traded up to a 29' Monterey and a Sea Pro SV1700 for fishing.
The only thing I really don't like is the crappy seat. It really needs a leaning post.

Inspector62, Your boat looks sweet!! Sounds similar to what I was lucky enough to find a 2005 Triton 240LTS with a 250 Verado, 42hrs. The owner was trading up to a Contender I believe. (Thank you Ronmaz.) I was concerned about the Verado but Glen E put my mind at ease. You have to drive the boat to appreciate the motor, and boat.
I love both of them.

Nice boat! Best of luck with it...

I felt your pain! The LP is the answer, you are 100% correct. Only mistake I made with mine was waiting a year to switch it out!
Re: Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
Nice write up. Still have yet to get out on a boat with V's on the back but keep hearing nothing but good things about them. And they still look bada$$ - which is a good thing
Re: Sea trial of a Verado powered Sea Pro SV2400 today....
You will enjoy the power pole a whole bunch as well. They are very very quite and will hold your boat in place. I don't plan on having another boat without one.

I did say that with exception if you really want a 300.......... IF I have super good month, the itch starts, and the stars are all aligned just right.... I just might do it one day... I have thought of just putting a 300HPDI on my boat (no I don't really care what the placard says about 225 max). Problem with my boat is 56 gallons won't go far.
