Default Repowering Question, f350? f400?

i have a 1989 Grady White Sailfish that currently has twin 89 200 yamahas on it, which have just checked out to be ticking timebombs. We cant afford to repower right now, but hopwefully in a few months, unless we sell the hull and buy a new smaller boat (downsize to 23' range)... anyways, weve been running the boat for about 4 years now with no major problems, and the engines of course wont be putting out their original 200 hp. we saw a 26-28knt cruise @ 3800-4100 rpm.

how would a f350 or verado350 compare to this set up?
when are the 400hp outboards predicted to hit the market?
for us its eaither a single new engine or twin used outboards, it doesnt make anysense for us to put 40k of new twins on for the 10 days a year we go out. thanks!

call grady and ask then if your transom can take the big stuff...it's not just the weight, it's also the torque....

Why are they "ticking time bombs"? They may very well run for years to come. If you are only using the boat 10 days a year then you should leave them alone and when or if one fail then cross that bridge when you come to it.

If you really want new or newer engines there are plenty of pairs slightly used engines out there waiting to be bought at a good price.

I would want the reliability of twins if it were me. I would go yami 4 stroke and find a pair of used motors. A pair of used F225's would get the job done. Heavier than what you have now but they are very very reliable and you can find a used pair for a decent price. I know a charter from Sitka that took off a very good pair this year and they are for sale at Sandy's Yamaha in Everett WA. With the year of the boat a used pair would be my suggestion.

Go with a pair of Yamaha 200HPDI"S Great engines. And a lot cheaper then the 225 Four strokes.

Last thing I would do is spend $30k on power for a 20 year old Grady.. For 10 days a year?
Personally I would be looking for the same thing you have but 10 years younger.

How in gods name do you live on Vancouver Island and only use the boat 10 days a year. That is like living in Hawaii and only getting to the beach 10 days a year. You live around some of my favorite boating waters on the West Coast. ????????????

For 10 days a year I would not do anything. If you plan on boating more I would still find a pair for used F225's
