Random Quote: There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
Be sure to check out the venture booth at miami, and pay close attention to the transom of the 34
Sorry about the pics I took them on my cell phone. I'm not gona give anything else away because I don't know if my dealer even wants me letting this much info out!
Glen, in talking with Joey at Sundance, he tells me the Verados are still the most popular engine on the boat and that they have no plans to go exclusively Yamaha. The change in the transom has added about 300 pounds of buoyancy and has not changed the maneuverability at all. They seem very pleased with the improvement in the boat and the added height between the scuppers and the waterline gives you the chance to rig the hull with anything out there.
I have a full set of performance reports at the office that I will submit here once I get back there tomorrow. The way the boat performs and handles with the new design is impressive to say the least. Now with some black 350s, we'll be in business! Ventures now have the option to be fully rigged and ready to go from the factory, can be ordered pre-rigged for your power, or with no rigging, just a complete boat and systems.
The transom looks the same to me
What's different?
It will be interesting to see the numbers on it with some real power, 250 barely cuts it on them, even in a 2 stroke...
400hp would be exactly what it needs! I still predict we'll see 500hp out of that 800lbs before its all over.
If you guys think that Yama is just going to roll over and hand off all that big motor business to Merc... Keep dreaming.....
I am interested to see what the boat will do with the V350's. I also like the fact that they weigh the same as the other verados. I would like to find a deal on an older 34 and repower with V350's. 34 Venture is a hell of a platform.
When you say "change in the transom".....aren't you talking about altering the weight distribution of the boat to raise the transom?
No, transom was probably not the correct word for me to have used. What they changed is not exactly the transom, rather it is the area under the stern. The hull used to have a step or notch under it, making it a "euro transom. That area has been filled in, extending the running surface all the way to the stern.
My guess is that the hull was designed with the weight of 2 strokes in mind and as four strokes have gotten heavier, the long notch made the hull tougher to get on plane. Extending the running surface changed the balance and prevents bow rise, putting it on plane easier. Eliminating the notch is a departure from the way most boats are currently produced, where a notch or brackets seem typical. The notch makes the boat work better in reverse, since the prop wash does not hit the transom as hard and lets the engines be mounted higher above the water surface. Increased mounting height cuts down on the chances of water getting into the exhaust when you are anchored or drifting in choppy water.
From what I've heard, the performance of the boat was improved with the change and that maneuverability did not seem to suffer. The added buoyancy will always help support heavier engines.
