Default New boat sold at a dealer not an "authorized" dealer. ? Implications?

Now here is the scenario. A manufatuturer's web site lists authorized dealers, but I find the named boat new at a dealer not on the list. Please comment for this fairly naive newboat buyer. Thanks.

Websites are often not updated on a regular basis, and some manufacturers change dealers about as often as I change my underwear. I would call the manufacturer and ask them if the dealer is authorized or not.
If not, then you may have problems getting warranty work done if you do purchase the boat.

There is a shop near me that sells Prolines, he is not an authorized dealer, but a friend of his is and wholesales them to him. They still come with full warranty and are registered through the dealer to Proline.

One other situation that I have seen with a local dealer, if a dealer discontinues it's status with a manufacturer, but has remaining inventory, they may be removed from the website as being an authorized dealer, however due to being one at the time that the boat was aquired by the dealer, no problems with warranty should be present. The local dealer this occured with was a pioneer dealer.

Real simple...

Get the info from the horses mouth.

Call the MFG, give them the hull ID #, and ask what the warranty and the dealer status is.

Make your decision from there.

Simple...

what he said. Don't take another step until you've done that!!!! And you may want them to fax you that in writing.
