Default EVINRUDE E-TEC OIL USAGE

Looking for real numbers and info on what your e-tec uses did a search but they seem old. looking at suzuki and e-tec 300s. This is a hard choice for me should just buy one of each.

I have twin 250s and I run the XD-50 and it uses so little oil that it gets me wondering. Not really but you know what I mean. I don't even remember when I filled the two 1.8 gallon tanks and they are still half full. If I had to guess it was a few months ago.

I've got a 115 E-Tec using XD100. I use 85 to 90 gallons of gas to a gallon of oil, but I don't run it hard.

I run a 2006 225hp computer set for the XD-100 oil.
The motor actually uses oil @ 75:1 during a typical offshore trip of 200+ miles of mixed use, trolling and cruising,

2006 250 e-tec on a 3400# 23 ft cc boat and I run it pretty hard. Usage is 70 to 80 gal of fuel to one gal of HD-100

We run twin 250's, like Chris, and similar to the 300's, we're averaging around 80 to 85:1, but we mostly cruise at around 45-4800 rpm, and don't troll much....., one thing to keep in mind, while trolling, these engines are extremely efficient....and the ratio increases quite a bit....so if you do troll alot, the overall ratio will increase closer to 100:1...especially considering how efficient they are below 1500 rpm......you won't burn much trolling

My experience exactly. Depending on the type of trip I run, I get anywhere from 85:1 to 100:1. I'm running twin 175 ETECs with over 1300 hours each on them at the present time. I burn 5-6 gallons of XD-100 per 100 hours (both engines combined). I got very similar results from a 250 ETEC that I ran for a little over 700 hours.

I have heard that from several e-tec owners but some have told me they didn't like the cost of the xd100 I also saw that on the bigger motors they where only going to offer xd 50 setting i still think the e-tec will out perform the suzuki. I will hopefully ride in boats that have these engines at the miami show.

Just wait til FloridaDan post. He has all the facts on E-TECs.

Where is he at? I figured he had his cell phone to alert him whenever another E-tec thread starts.

There are alot of people that run the large blocks on XD100 settings, me included. Our dealer still sets them up that way...., no problems from any of his customer's as of yet....maybe if you only troll all day long, but I even doubt that that is a problem....I just haven't seen the rumored reports of problems of oil starvation.....until our dealer sees it, I'm not going to worry.

That's one thing to keep in mind as well, who and how good are your service dealers, I mean suzuki makes a great 4 stroke, the etec is a great DI 2 stroke, but I'd give the edge to the dealer that is going to be taking care of you....

IMO go with the most trustworthy and honest dealer with the best qualified mechanics. As stated, you'll be happy with either E-TEC or Suzuki.

My numbers are exactly the same as stated above. 85-100:1 on an average day of fishing, ie running out, bump trolling, holding over structure bottom fishing. During the spanish mackeral run last year last year I took the kids out for a day of trolling in close. 12 mile run, troll at 5-6 knots all day, 12 miles back in. 130:1 that day.

I run an E-Tec 250 and XD-100 since new with no problems.

I average 80:1. Best day was 84:1. A day for me is 120-150 miles, near WOT 8-10 mile runs in the bay morning and evening, 4000-4500 cruise on the ocean and a several hours trolling.
