Was given a quote for a Scout 202 Dorado in Connecticut. 2002 with 150 HPDI with Sports package, back to back lounge, bow cover. Charging $32,671 for the boat, $4,225 for Sport Package, (includes Swim Platform, hydraulic steering, stern seat, full canvas. lounge is $266, bow cover $273, freight and permits are $990, dealer prep is $1,600. Total is $40,025, "spring special" discount is $5,035, total is $34,990, bottom paint, additional at $650, and Shorleland'r Trailer is $2,442. Also has a 2002, Sportfish 202 with Yamaha 200 Four stroke, T-Top, and same options as Dorado, total is $39,990. How do these prices compare to the South? Are these fair prices? Dorado does not have trim tabs, Sportfish does. Thank you in advance.

This seems a little high to me. I can buy this very boat with a 200 yamaha in Houston for 32k. I also found a brand new 202 (1999 model leftover) with a 200 Yamaha, and same package for $22,000. If interested let me know and I'll track down the number.

The guy in Ct is way overpriced. He quoted me almost $5,000 more than the guy in RI. Contact Scott @ Viking Marine in RI. I am sure he will treat you better!

202 Scout Sportfisher, mainly fish Point Judith, Block Island, and Charlestown.

Just wondering---why would you want bottom paint and a trailer?

The older Dorados were not self bailing, which turned me off. Are the new ones self bailing?

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunetly everything is more in CT. Where in RI is Viking Marine? I would like to give them a call. I will also check out the HS in Rowayton.

Lacey,
Forget about the Hydra-Sport and concentrate on finding a good deal on the Scout. I looked hard at the Hydra Sports as the RI dealer is in my hometown, but there really is no comparison, the non Vector HS, do not have the same quality. The Vector's are beautiful boats.

Viking Marine is in Portsmouth, RI about 45-mins after crossing the RI/CT line on rte-95. His tel. (401)682-2339 ask for Scott.

202 Scout Sportfisher, mainly fish Point Judith, Block Island, and Charlestown.

Lacey, I have a 20 ft hydrasport dual console loaded and im ok with it, dont get me wrong it is a nice boat and you get a lot for the money, and the dealer in rowayton (ted) was a great guy and was really concerned with my satisfaction. But if i would have tested it in a choppy setting i dont think i would have bought it . 2 ft chop and im taking a beating .If i didnt get the top with curtains i would be getting soaked on a regular basis. If you are a bayman or fair weather fisherman then the boat has all you need but if you are like me a diehard then i would either go bigger HS (The ride is 1000 times better) or look elsewhere If you are interested in the boat ill tell you what it came with. 20 Ft 202DC 200 yama saltwater ox66 was optional came with 150 evin (hate them ). 38 gal livewell ,lighted, airated ,dual batt, courtesy deck lights (nice),insulated fish box (good size), porta potti that mounts in console.optional fresh water washdown,Bimini top with full curtains from the factory (nice but not of the best quality) but a must have on this boat to keep you dry, swim platform with ladder(like i need that for fishing) ,trailer (Dual axel),It comes with the back to back lounge seat i opted for the regular seat (more fishin room) a cooler seat with cushion (good size and quality),a ton of storage! Hydraulic steering plus bottom paint and a custom canvas for the bow all came to around 30,000

Went and talked with Ted in Rowayton today and looked at the HS. The fit and finish is not what the Scout is, but the package is nice for 30K. It comes equipped exactly as T Bone said. Ted is a really nice guy and it was a pleasure to talk with him. The deal is truly turn key. I need this boat for kids, (3 young girls) fishing, tubing, cruising etc on LI sound in and around Fairfield, Westport, Norwalk Islands etc. The HS DC is said to have the Vector Hull, 22 degree deadrise. If it is as wet as you say, not into that. Not sure how the Scout rides, but they say it is great. Scout is lighter, faster, but pricey. May just bite the bullet and pull the trigger on the right deal for a Scout. Brother in law bought the Edgewater 247 DC, and that thing rides soooo smooth. That is too big for needs, and his is on Great South Bay on Fire Island. I am a die hard fisherman, but also have a family, so I have to make some compormises. Thanks for all the input, this is exttremely helpful. Anyone know how the 202 Dorado rides?

I have a 98 scout 202 dorado with a 175 yamaha. The boat rides fairly well in a chop. I also was looking for a good all around boat. The scout is an excelent choice. My wife and I fish this boat anywhere from 10 to 30 miles offshore in the gulf and also use it to ski and cruise. I would however like to have full curtains for those really nasty days and my wife would like to have the back to back seat on the passenger side. Good luck and happy boating and fishing.

Lacey, Ted is a great guy. My wife loves the boat(because of the seating and head) so if you are a family man the boat is a good pick .
